Meyer wasnt coming to babysit. His MO is winners and losers its in his dna. That cant be instilled without authority and we would have had a full on rebellion

The only salvage operation will occur after a new leader is appointed not before. We are about to witness/ under go transition again for the 5th time

 

If the price was right... who knows. But it was still my thought, and my idea. I still want Kiffin.

You still can't imagine how this all ends, can you? It's going to get very ugly.

 

If UF doesn't land their number 1 choice whoever it is, we will be in deep trouble both real and imagined. That failure will have the potential for a Hindenburg level disaster

 

I'm starting to like this Indiana coach @antny1 keeps showing tweets about. Take a look at his HC track record. I think you put him up there with Kiffin.

 

It's a thought, but at this point in time I think we need the closest thing to a splash hire, and proven winner, that we can get.

I need to see an SEC level of coaching type winner.

 

I don't think we get Kiffin

 

I'm of the opinion that he needs to show me what he can do at Indiana first. Win there and I'll be impressed.

 

I'm willing to risk it. I'd go him or Franklin at this point. I just don't see Kiffin happening so then what? Not a lot of exciting options out there IMO and Gator Nation will lose their shit if they go with another unproven coach and I think those three are better than Fisch. Leipold I would consider I just worry about his lack of SEC exposure. Cignetti was part of Saban's initial coaching group that helped build them into the powerhouse they became, he was Saban's recruiting coordinator so he gets it.

 

Cignetti is also 63 years old. How long can he coach at a high stakes school like UF?

 

This is what concerns me a bit. Why, if he had the Saban stamp of approval, did he have to go through a decades worth of minor programs before being tapped as a Power 4 hire? Unfortunately I have the Napier yips. Saban never gave him the opportunity to be the OC there....most likely for a reason.

 

Saban made the decision to hire Jim McElwin as his OC after Applewhite left, over Cignetti. Even great head coaches can make mistakes. lol.

In all seriousness, Saban hired and fired a few OCs while at Bama. Some were good, great and others got fired.

Cignetti (IUP) left the same year as McElwin (Colorado state) and took his first head coaching job. We all know Macs history…he was hired as a super surprise hiring at UF and crashed and burned and is now coaching Central Michigan. So, Mac didn’t go through a decade plus of minor programs before getting his shot but he failed when he did.

Cignetti took / was offered smaller step ups over the past decade and now has his first power 4 head coaching job. It remains to be seen how he does. But he has been super successful at his 3 prior stops. Maybe he succeeds maybe he doesn’t.

moral of the story - not everyone follows the same path. Coaches - and players- can adapt and change over time. Perhaps Cignetti is a better coach today than he was 15 years ago.

 

The turnover of assistants was so high at Alabama under Saban because they were constantly taking promotions elsewhere. But, he kept winning even so. It became apparent Saban himself was the key.

 

That may be so, but it better not be because we didn’t offer the money properly. If money is in the way, you might as well quit and just accept not being able to be a top program.

 

Sabin recognize what good coordinators and coaches look like

 

He did, but, he could never keep them for long. So, much of the glue that kept the team consistently winning through all the different coordinators must have been him.

 

He consistently hired competent staff

 

That, too.

Saban said he wouldn’t coach Bama either. I’m not saying Urbs isn’t done because he prob is but words don’t mean much and there’s always a price, always.
