You folks are overreacting. The article says Stricklin will "lead the search" for a new coach. It didn't say he will be the only person making the decision, or that he will make the decision at all, except formally. Who do you want to lead the search? Athletic Directors always do that. You don't want ten different boosters, etc. running all over the place, saying different things. That's Auburn level stupidity. I can assure you that Stricklin consulted with many people when he made his hires. All sorts of UAA people, and big boosters were involved. Most likely the president of UF as well. It's been that way for decades. Steve Spurrier came to UF because Ben Hill Griffin, and some other big boosters, TOLD Bill Arnsbarger to hire him. Arnsbarger wanted to hire Mike Archer for god's sake.
A new AD should lead the search. Scott Stricklin should not be leading any searches for any head coach. He has cost this university more than enough money!
I don't sense a lot of momentum from UF, UAA or the big boosters to fire him right away. I could very well be wrong. But..hey, you've got strong opinions!! Get in the game!! Start stroking big checks, and you can get a seat at the table where decisions are made!
Yup. Without having any meaningful impact on the final decision. I don't have a strong case either way for Stricklin staying or going. But I don't think he is the whole problem.
everyone has an opinion, so if you fire SS, have an interim university president, an interim athletic Director and possibly an interim football coach so humor me. Stric gets fired who is the replacement? he runs a $200 million a year “business” Who leaves from their current university to go to Florida? Who conducts that search? do the most successful of the current coaches on campus care? Would the university lose Sullivan? everybody is on a firing spree, but I don’t see any proposed solutions for the A.D. or the athletic association I’m all ears
We are on strike five but this is football.its just a shame they are soaking our boosters like this. What a crap system.
It was the toothless ncaa that created the top heavy recruiting that we saw the last two decades. There was parity when Saban was at lsu and sos was at Florida. It was much harder to win a ship back then when you couldn’t just stack the roster and outtalent everyone. There were several schools that had a realistic shot at a title every year.
You get an NFL GM and pay him top dollar to make the decisions because that GM probably strapped up his helmet at some point and played the game himself and knows what to look for in a coach. What qualifications does Stricklin have to hire a coach? Does he even know what he’s looking for if he never played?
Huh? I don’t think that most NFL GM’s played and I don’t think that it important that the AD played. It is entirely possible to evaluate talent if you did not play.
A name?? don’t deflect you want him fired ? Name a possible replacement. You can’t and that’s ok. An NFL only GM - top end - is $7.0 mil. You think Jor Hortiz can oversee 400 athletes and 17 head coaches? 3 signature venues? without any experience whatsoever? name 3 GMs Who became athletic directors in the last 20 years. You can’t you want Florida to be the beta test for that no thanks Better off poaching Yurachek or Radakovich
How many times did that last guy fail? You figure that out... The problem at hiring ADs is deeper than you might think.
Twice? One and a half? He had three opportunities and one brought two national championships, one failed, and the other was fired after he left. And he caught quite a bit of heat, with several people here complaining about how poorly he did as AD, regardless of all his other successes. Not sure I get your point in quoting this three week old post.
