I agree. The fear mongering of a few years ago was ridiculous. It is just fascinating how some people are so eager to hang on to it.
You should really keep reading your own quote... I'd suspect the reason for that is because people report dead bodies. Officially, a murder is declared after investigation. Rape statistics are based on the reports of rapes occurring. Even rapes that give you cognitive dissonance when they are adjudicated against your favorite political candidate.
Because md, this is a well worn GOP strategy. Democrats, People of color, especially the "darker" they are, immigrants, Arabs, Queers, intellectuals, academicians, secularists, the poor, or those that strive for a more progressive society are......THE OTHER and all threaten their life, their limb and of course their Constitution. Regarding the Constitution, that MATTERS to them under Biden. However, when Trump declares he "won" the election again, irregardless of the vote, and declares himself plenipotentiary of the American people for life, under the authority of Clarence Thomas, the same GOP hypocrites will happily shred, burn and piss on said document, all while waving, the American flag.
Ha ha, yea I lived in Miami during the 80s with the cocaine cowboy shootouts , the marielito crime wave, liberty City riots, etc etc. Good time to be a crime reporter I guess. Never impacted me, but crime stats had only one way to go after that.
Murder and other violent crime dropped across the U.S. last year, FBI data shows WASHINGTON — Crime, including serious violent incidents like murder and rape, dropped nationally from 2022 to 2023, according to new data released by the FBI on Monday. Violent crime was down about 3% from 2022 to 2023 and property crime took a similar drop of 2.4%, the FBI reported in its annual "Summary of Crime in the Nation." The most serious crimes went down significantly: Murder and non-negligent manslaughter were down an estimated 11.6% — the largest single year decline in two decades — while rape decreased by an estimated 9.4%. Preliminary numbers showed that 2024 crime numbers were also dropping for the early part of this year, continuing a trend of crime easing as America has come out of the pandemic. Among property crimes, burglary decreased by an estimated 7.6%. Motor vehicle theft, however, was up by an estimated 12.6% between 2022 and 2023. Recorded incidents of shoplifting were also up: from 999,394 in 2022 to 1,149,336 in 2023, which is roughly the same level of incidents reported in 2019, before the pandemic. (Store closures and COVID-19 security measures likely decreased shoplifting in 2020 and 2021, and may have affected 2022 incidents as well.)
It should be bad news for them although Trump's followers will undoubtedly prefer to believe the Donald and his alternative facts rather than statistics from a credible federal agency (which they don't consider credible) based on data reported by the local governments and law enforcement agencies.
Democrats exploded crime rates after George Floyd's death in May 2020 and now they want a pat on the back because crime is trending down to where it would have been without their anti-policing nonsense.
The MAGA cult members won't believe the numbers. They only listen to their orange deity. But swing voters will likely be influenced. Crime down, stock market at record numbers, and interest rates falling.
I personally question the notion that presidents of either party have a lot of influence over short-term changes in crime rates. That's particularly the case given that the vast majority of crimes in America are investigated and charged at the state level rather than the federal level. Having said that, MAGA has put a ton of emphasis on crime and scaring people about how dangerous our country is becoming.
Hanging out buzzed with some out of town family this weekend. Family: The world's going to hell! Me: Actually, the world is getting safer. This is probably the best time to be alive in the history of humanity! Family: [blinks] Me: Seriously, when would you rather have lived? There's never been a time where you are as likely to die of old age and never be the victim of violent crime or war. Crime is down across the board, it's just that there are more people than ever, more "news" than ever, and everyone has an iphone. Anecdotal stories bombarding you in your news feed constantly doesn't show an accurate picutre. The data proves we're safer now then ever. Stop watching news. Family: [blinks] 5 minutes later Family: Somebody sucker punched on old man in NYC now he's in the hospital! The world is going to hell! Me: [Pours another Negroni]
If that's the case, why does he run around claiming that crime is out of control? This is a rhetorical question, honestly. We all know the answer
