I have only gambled once. I went to the dog track, bet on one race, won $40.00 and quit. So I'm still ahead. What about you?
in 2002 I won a sales contest trip to a 5 star all inclusive resort in Puerto Rico. It included a small casino. I have never been a gambler but I took $40's in rolled quarters with me and decided I would play the quarter slots- I told my wife if and when I got up $100 I would quit. I got up to $87 and then started losing until finally losing it all. I must have been at that same slot maching for 2+ hours. When I finally ran out of quarters. I got up and a local woman sat down to play(later learned she was a regualr player who when she noticed someone playing the same slot machine for an extended period of time she would go and watch til the person got up and then quickly sit down at the machine) sure enough on the 3rd time she pulled the arm she won $11K. No more gambling for me
I was in Vegas for our Championship game vs Oklahoma. Tebow made the Promise and I took his word for it. Wagered $4500, which is by far the most I have ever bet on a single game.
$4.7 billion. Granted that was an online poker app and they have seemed strangely reluctant to cash out the chips.
I like to bet a lot but avoid big bets. Biggest win for me was a 3-team (college football) parlay that paid out about $700.
I never bet horses before but was told to put money on Charismatic. I went to the breeders sale and said $30 on charismatic. The teller said I need a horse number. I had no idea. I grabbed a paper and it said (whatever… 13?). I said ok $30 on 13. I went home and watched the race. Charismatic won! 30:1 odds. I was stoked. They said (whatever) number 18 wins! I was like, what?! Yeah. Turns out the paper had the starting positions , not the horse numbers. I won squat. I was so broke and thought I won $900. Nah. Great lesson. Never bet a horse since. They could have said something but, no… pick a number. Still pisses me off 20 yrs later.
When we lived in Vegas, my wife an I went to Aliante casino for breakfast and a movie one Sunday morning. After the movie I had $20 in my pocket and we stopped to play one of the slots we liked. On the 3rd pull we won a game. I looked at the numbers and said that we won about $60 so we covered the breakfast and movie. But as it counted out the payoff, it kept counting. I looked closer and saw we had won $600. After it paid out I asked my wife if we should keep playing. Her response was "no, we're leaving now". Smart move.
I bet on the company I worked for. Carmax stock dropped to $1.62 and I told my bookie/stock broker to sell everything I had (which was a lot to me back then) and buy KMX. Stock went to $57 and split and then went to $157. Retired at 50!
At an old job the guy that came by at lunch time with his "Roach Coach" also had betting slips for those interested. Hit him up for a $400 parlay once. He really wasn't excited for me.
In football, I've bet $500 bucks twice. One win, one push! In the casinos and horse/dog racing I've hit a couple times for over $1,000... but not much over. I hit a $750 win on Draftkings last year as well. Don't ask me about the bad ones though!
I would have sworn Oklahoma was favored . . . but apparently you're right. BCS Bowl Odds: Florida 3-Point Favorite Over Oklahoma in national championship PS -- If that's not a good site, someone please let me know and I'll take it down.
Don’t remember. But sure remember most I ever lost: 1982 Georgia 44 Us 0. I lost $50.00. My wife and I both working with 1 kid in diapers, one in preschool and one in first grade. Living paycheck to paycheck. I bet behind my wife’s back and that was worst moment of our marriage. Haven’t bet anything since. uh oh: there goes Hershel Walker again. BTW, we are still married.
$37000! It was a $360 bet on a superfecta during Breeders cup weekend. It was sweet and made for a great weekend
