60-Minutes did a feature on Nick Saban several years ago. At the time he was by far the highest paid HC. The lead correspondent on the story interviewed the school president and tried to press him on that, ie paying him too much. The president would have of none of that and said Nick was the best investment in the history of the school, worth every dollar they were paying him and much-much more. Because of the success of the football team they were bringing in by far more $$$$ than ever. Enrollment went up, donations went up, booster contributions went up, ticket sales went up, merchandise sales went up, media interests went up, etc-etc-etc. All of those playoff-championship runs brought in more $$$$ too.

fwiw, Nick was paid $11.4mil in 2023, his final season as HC. Kirby is already well above that and several others are sitting right there now. The numbers are crazy and will only go up, way up.

It clearly pays to have the right guy. On the other side, it will cost you big time across the board when you have the wrong guy. Finding the right guy, just doesn’t happen often.

Imma guess that has already happened. He only comes here if he wants to. Money is not the issue. He's going to do an urban. Lagway and our receivers...

Yep, this x1000. You get it. A program like Florida can profit massively if they are able to hire a proven winner. This conference has 5 teams in the Top 6 currently. Florida needs to pay a mega contract to compete. There is no other way, but to get lucky and we've tried that route too many times.

I don't begrudge you your opinion. But you've never been a fan of a team over the long term clearly.

Many people don't even realize that a great football coach is a business investment that pay dividends far more than people will believe. I've known this since before the Zook days. Even if the returns for Championships were less than they are today, we still would be well ahead financially if we had been serious about getting the best available coach after SOS went to the NFL. Ever since then, I've been pulling my hair out screaming t these clowns in control of the Gator football program.

I thought this was a hilarious reaction to Billy talking about showing more scrap. Took 3 years to realize it.

Since Wes Chandler but I can’t justify 2k for getting beat downs. My money is too hard to come by. I feel for the players and I’ll drive over next year when the coach isn’t already gone.

Putting out a bad product doesn’t make fans come. Vandy just collects the check and that’s why they don’t have a huge stadium full of fans. We have to at least try to make a championship team. If we do our best, so be it be they seem to be ok with second tier.

Lagway’s deal wasn’t funded by the school or the UAA.

That’s my point. A few guys are pretty much footing the bill for the whole deal. Yet there’s a shit ton of people complaining about how the money gets spent. If you want to spend more, spend more. If you want to get in a bidding war, go get in a bidding war. If you can’t do that, don’t complain about how the people funding it are choosing to spend it.

*I also don’t believe we lost all the players in last year’s class strictly over money. A much bigger offer might have enticed a couple of them to stay, but I think the way the season ended on the field played as big of a role as any other factor. If we’d won the last five games, the deals that got the commitments may have been sufficient enough to get the signatures too.

Luckily, I think the message is getting through about hiring a proven commodity. Better times are ahead.

Embarrassing. Utterly embarrassing. That should never happen at the University of Florida. I bet Spurrier constantly fights back tears knowing what Stricklin and Napier have done to this program.

They are on strike four and still swinging. Hopefully they see they need to change more than the coach. They need to look at the model top to bottom and have a better approach. Maybe first of all set an objective as to what they want the program to be.

At this point Strick and Napier are riding the range together. Strick isn’t firing CBN and Fuchs isn’t firing Strcklin. Ymmv, I am in pessimist mode :)

Was just reading comments elsewhere (Finebaugh) that LSU wasn’t interested in N because Saban didn’t make him an OC (red flag to them) and they didn’t feel he could hire or manage a competent staff. Sounds about right.

Maybe, or maybe this is just people trying to sound smart after the fact. The LSU guy loudly proclaimed they were going to make a big splash hire, Napier didn't fit from the beginning.

Pretty sure we had a similar effect during the 90s with admissions, merch, donations, etc. There's something to be said of having a winning, CONTENDING football team. It does bring added visibility and some people want that Saturday exp. Some.
