Star is the most important position on this defense and is part of the problem. The Star should have the experience to read what an offense is going to do and react either to the pass or run play. The problem is, who could play Star better? And, yes, DL is a big issue as well!
Nick de la Torre is the only one I have heard apologize for how off he was in evaluating the Gators. He admits drinking the Kool-Aid and trusting his sources. We have multiple problems, and I don't see any hope of a fix! The evaluation of TP players is a mixed return. Qb and wr are very good. If we had a really good OL, Mertz would excel. After that, there not TP players that super-impress me, except for Ja Kobi Jackson. Am I forgetting anyone?
Serious question: If Nape hired a world class Defensive Coordinator, and got the f—k out of the way. Unlimited NIL and portal access, how long until we could field a filthy nasty hungry aggressive defense that played as a single cohesive world eating unit? Could that be done in an offseason?
We were told he was an experienced defensive coordinator and could steady the ship. Then when we dug in, we realized his experience was at the community college down the street, had most recently been fired from Auburn for awful execution, and, again, was one of Napeys buddies from before.
When is there any self reflection on how they are culpable for the results on the field? Now it’s an issue of trust between players???? He’s the defensive coordinator, get the f in there and build that trust. Coach the bad and lazy out of them, force them to gain trust by teaching them how to properly execute the play. ITS. . . YOUR . . . JOB
Outside of Ron Roberts time at Baylor, where the head coach is a defensive expert himself and made RR change his approach, Roberts is a two high safety guy who plays super safe every situation. his 3rd and 4th down and short defensive calls are just like Todd Grantham in his later Florida years….he calls a defensive call that is basically giving up the first down in lieu of a possible td. It is unreal. And dumb. This has been shown on all the film reviews this year. I cannot believe with our army of analysts that should be self scouting and scouting our opponent’s tendencies and with all the coaches on staff that have coached for many years…. …that both on offense and defense no one says “hey, stop calling the same play in this scenario -it doesn’t work- try this instead” When I watch our play calling on both sides I get so frustrated cuz it seems as if our coaches have never considered analyzing what other teams do, what they are good at and what their weakness are. That it has never occurred to them to have a strategy to maximize your chances of winning by counteracting the oppositions strength and weaknesses. Like film review of our future opponents is a foreign concept. Instead, no matter what….lets run our stuff. Trying something else is a foreign concept. Seems impossible in this day and age of advance scouting and analytics but man it sure looks and feels that way.
watched some of chris mccleland at Mizzou/Vandy. He is the real deal. He looked magnitudes better than anyone on the inside we have. I wonder why he left?
Good players know good coaching and want to be developed to their highest potential. If they aren't getting it, they will look elsewhere for it, especially now when it is easier to move about via the portal. Why put your body and mind through the wringer if there is no payoff?
People always spout this stuff because it allows for another shot to be taken at the staff, but it could be a million different reasons. Lane's star RB is now at OSU. There's a former Bama WR playing at Texas. The portal giveth and the portal taketh away.
I saw a couple of plays in the game where three guys on our DL literally fell over the top of Olineman like bowling pins at the same time. I've never seen that happen before. It's like they were standing at attention when the ball was snapped.
No need to be so angry or defensive. Players leave for playing opportunity, growth, better teams, or because they fall out of favor, among a myriad of other reasons. Everybody on a message board is "spouting" something. Problems aren't solved here. Take a breath and relax! Go Gators!
Yep, although both ole Miss and Bama replaced their portal losses. Lane picked up the Canes best RB and he is doing well .
Miami put eight up tight to the LOS, dared us to throw or run, manned up elsewhere but with-in distance of their man to make plays, “Not a scared money defense”.
