After all of the preseason hype about increasing Florida’s depth on the defensive line and the addition of Gerald Chapman, as our defensive line coach who came with reviews… To say we’ve been disappointed is woefully understated. I went back and watch the game a second time because I’m a masochist… and I’m having a tough time (after watching a ton of college football yesterday with less talented teams getting pressure and playing with fire)) understanding why guys as highly rated as we have on the defensive front and as physically impressive with all the measurable… Are so bad at getting any pressure, stopping the run, creating contain or getting to the quarterback. We are not good in ANY area …
It seems like Boone and Pyburn are the only ones that play with any kind of tenacity at all…
Is it scheme? Should we stop disguising fronts and stunting and just send four guys to be as aggressive as possible and set the tone?
Is it talent? is it the overall attitude of the team?
why can’t we play like our hair is on fire?

Mike Peterson is the edge rusher coach. He has been underwhelming since being hired.

Can coach Chaos or Chapman both be the problem? Since two respected DL coaches probably didn’t forget how to coach… More likely it is scheme/play call and the overall philosophy of the coaches (Napier and Roberts). They play it safe

From what insiders have mentioned in the fall (so take it with a grain of salt) the d line has talent but the lack of aggression upfront - Kelby standing, edge rushers slowly rushing vs all out getting to the qb - is what the d line is being asked to do. This includes the edge rushers and the strong side d linemen - I never heard anything about the d tackles so can’t provide anything as to the run defense problems.

    Scheme. It’s the one constant

I saw the same with Collins. Pyburn should be starting. In terms of effort Pyburn is number 1 and it’s not close.

I feel like Pup is our best LB now and I’m surprised I’m saying that.

Abyone know when Boireau is back? Sounds crazy but I think he’s our best interior DL. Hope he’s back by UCF or they run for 250-270 on us.

Roberts doesn’t go Bear Front and we lose that game.

It is a talent issue on the DLine and Online. If both of these were correctly addressed, I believe we would be a different team.

The lack of overall intensity combined with the confusion, lack of communication, poor tackling, penalties and blown assignments have been pretty consistent the last 3 years. It's just bad.

Kelby really surprised me yesterday. Pyburn effort is the type we need from all. Marshall, Denson, and Pup played well. Hoping Boireau back for UCF or we are in trouble.

Can you imagine if we had Princely, McClellan, Braun, Ryland Powell and others? But then again they weren’t getting developed and there’s a reason they transferred because they were tired of losing

Pup has been the best LB as soon as he stepped on campus. James is the most athletic. Moten adds little. Wingo adds nothing. Graham and Chiles will take their snaps soon.

Pyburn isn't a replacement for Collins. He also has very little lateral movement, but he has tenacity, which is in short supply on our team now. Collins has been playing because Lyons and Boireau are out. Collins, Taylor, and Des play only because we have no depth. Our rotation should be Jackson, Banks, Boireau and Lyons only, but that shipped sailed.

Our interior guys constantly get push around. There’s no push up the middle which creates havoc.

Disagree. Other teams with lesser talent have their DL and OL look functional. The only constant has been coaching and scheme. The scheme doesn’t maximize the talent we do have, and coaching and how playing time appears to be determined is questionable.

By far our best lineman. Hoping he’s back for UCF if not that might mean out for year. Also hoping somebody else doesn’t pay him lots of money to leave us

Pup is the best due to his effort but don’t underscore his overall athleticism. He’s not as athletic as James, but James has not given us what I thought he would give us this year and I will leave it at that. I sometimes see James standing.

pyburn- Should start every game until we see his kind of effort from others. For whatever reason we’re not getting a ton of effort from others as I watch them sometimes stand. Not that Billy will make a point of it, but other coaches would buy starting and giving him 30 to 40 snaps a game.

Brad culpepper, Tony McCoy, Darren mickell, mike Brandon, Harvey Thomas…what I wouldn’t give to see a defensive line like that again…those were the days. Just don’t let them hit the French quarter before the sugar bowl!

They would be considered undersized in today's game.

How about we get a coach who can motivate everybody and stop playing the Spiertos, Pyburns, Waites', Boones, Wingos, and Douglas'?
