The experience is invaluable but will have to learn a new system next year. It will be like starting over again. A year one redo.
He's doing really well, considering the circumstances. He will be a huge asset going forward. I just hope he stays in Gainesville regardless of what does or doesn't happen with this staff.
He can go most anywhere, and I won't be surprised if he does. I'd like to see him stay, though. It seems like forever since we last had a really good qb!
I wasn’t in favor of Napier pulling Mertz when he had a hot hand, but it proved to be the right thing to do. DJ came in and drove for a TD. Really glad to see both QBs playing well. Billy seems to be handling that part very well.
Or... O-line coaching? I actually miss Steve Addazio... Lol. Ever since he broadcasted that game recently, I've been thinking about how well he coached up our O-line in the not so distant past. Okay... he was a lousy OC, but he was a good O-line coach.
Mertz didn't have a noticeable problem picking up a new system. DJ is smart. He won't have a problem. He could be special with Kiffen. His arm is way better than Dart's.
These "easier games" are when Lagway is supposed to get his game reps and experience in so that when we play the toughest part of our schedule he can come in and at least know what to expect. If he stays, and I have no reason to believe that he won't, he will be our starter next year. He can be the QB1 in Gainesville. I have a hard time believing he would walk away from that spotlight... especially if we get him an upgrade of a head coach. Let's be honest... he will get a much better coach if he stays than he has now. And if you parse his own words, when asked about his Gator team and coach, you can tell he is leaning towards staying. Recently, he's been asked why he chose to be a Gator, and he said there were two main reasons... The first was the obligatory statement about the coaching staff... That is pretty much expected to be the first reason. But if we hear the second choice, you can see that he's hinting something, like he knows change is coming, and his second reason is that he loves The Swamp and the Gator fans... That second reason, to me, seems to indicate that he is leaning towards staying in Gainesville to be QB1 next year. Maybe I'm reading too much into that "second" reason, but I feel like he wants to take that next step in his college football career in Gainesville... as QB1. That's just the way I felt about it, when he was asked that question. Now... about the came Saturday. He needed the reps... and Napier did him a solid by playing him deep in our own territory with the game still on the line. More to come...
The offense moves with him at the helm. I’m not a film junkie but it’s likely becuase teams are hesitant to stack the box when he’s behind center.
Lol... there's an ironic moniker-ed poster named "believe" that seems to be more if an UNBELIEVER leaving his nasty negative reps on this thread. Hater? Or... a fan of some other school?
