Anyone have insight as to why his block in the 3rd qtr, which negated a touchdown was illegal. I thought maybe they would say targeting, but after watching the replay the defender took three steps toward him… he just got clocked.

Yeah, I did not understand that one. It looked like a great block. Maybe it was too high?

That run though was incredible. One of the best individual plays in the BN tenure.

As I’ve seen on Twitter, refs focused more on the severity of the hit than the legality. That was in no way a blindside block especially when you can see the defender brace to take on the block. Should’ve called it targeting or literally anything other than an illegal blindside block and I would’ve respected the call a tad bit more

Webb and Baugh seem to be game changer backs. They are explosive runners.

    Too high with helmet contact?

It really was pitty for that clueless defender. He saw Johnson for about 3 steps. He was running straight at him, and the defender wasn't defenseless, just mesmerized by the run.

It was just a bad call. Montrell was flowing with the play, not blocking back towards our goal line. More like the refs thought there had to be a penalty with a player getting levelled like that.
It was a shoulder to the chest.

That was not a blindside block! Johnson was running up the field to block the guy. He wasn't coming back toward the line of scrimmage. It looked like he hit the defender in the chest with his shoulder, not in his head. If Johnson was an offensive linemen, that may have been considered a pancake block. Bottom line, it was a really bad call.

After watching the replay the blocker braced himself for the hit. It was a totally legal block....kid just got his bell rung

The refs are definitely influenced by how severe the hit is AND by any reaction from the crowd. I’ve seen countless plays go on and then the crowd goes “OOOOOOOOOO” to a great tackle or block and the ref pulls the laundry out.

If anything, I think the fact that the hit (although perfectly legitimate) was high and their helmets did bump. The rule is a Shiite-show and no two groups call it the same. Tough for players to know who’s on first, if I can mix in a baseball analogies for the old timers.

Typical of today's college football. Pay these kids millions and then make sure they don't have to take a clean hit. And, it's okay if you think you might hurt your pinky because you can go ahead and opt-out. Might as well be watching synchronized swimming or Olympic ribbon twirling. Along those same lines, the kickoff should be eliminated from college football. It's been completely neutered.

The sport is going to end up 2 hand touch, just a matter of time.

I don't know. There may be a blindside two hand touch penalty. ;)

This is the new era of football…anything violent they want to remove from the game. Memo to refs and the NCAA…football is a violent game.
