In all fairness the predictions for numbers of storm is way off thus far this year. Yes I know the season has months to go and I’m sure there will be some late season storms in addition to extra tropical systems that get names.
Lots of Sahara dust kept things quiet mid season. Likely things will pick up shortly. Here in our area it seems like we are getting early season “cool” fronts pushing down earlier than normal. That’s generally causes systems to “right hook” and stay out to sea. However TS can spin off the “tails” of these fronts and cause local “home grown” storms to pop up.
Link to article on MSN 2 days ago MSN So 50 million years ago the average temperature was almost double what is was last year ? At its hottest, the study suggests, the Earth’s average temperature reached 96.8 degrees Fahrenheit (36 degrees Celsius) — far higher than the historic 58.96 F (14.98 C) the planet hit last year.
saw that. of course humans weren't around then either. amazing that humans have only came to be during the coldest part of earth history. homosapiens only around the last 300k years
The Fahrenheit scale can go quite negative, so 98F isn’t close to double 59F. Converting to Kelvin, which does have an absolute zero, can help us there. Last year, the average temp was around 288K, and 50 MYA it was around 310K.
I saw this a few days ago and I figured some numb nut would post it here, not understanding at all the relevance or irrelevance of it to the current situation. Not shockingly you didn’t post this part We know that these catastrophic events … shift the landscape of what life looks like,” Judd said. “When the environment warms that fast, animals and plants can’t keep pace with it.” At no point in the nearly half-billion years that Judd and her colleagues analyzed did the Earth change as fast as it is changing now, she added: “In the same way as a massive asteroid hitting the Earth, what we’re doing now is unprecedented.”
appreciate the term numb nut. I think that’s what my dad used to call me 45 years ago. But anyway. We are back to straw man. Nobody has once presented an argument that earth doesn’t cool and warm in cycles as this graph indicates. The argument has been and continues to be why would we bankrupt ourselves for the possibility of changing average temperature 1 degree in 30 years. And I say possibility because that’s best case. It’s absurd. Average Temp High 90s millions years vs mid 50s now. That would be called catastrophic cooling if there was a way to generate money from it.
Earth does warm and cool in cycles. Literally nobody is arguing against that notion. Here are the differences to the current period: 1. There has been no natural event that caused a rapid change. Natural shifts tend to be associated with cataclysmic events (major volcanic activity, meteor impacts, substantial changes in Earth's orbit, etc.). None of these things have happened. These are usually why you see changes in the atmosphere that cause climactic change. The current change is not due to natural variation but rather human activity, pumping CO2, a greenhouse gas, and a few other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. 2. The speed of the current warming, occurring in a century, is unprecedented without a cataclysmic event. The warming is on the graph. It is almost impossible to see because of the speed it is happening, as the scale of the graph isn't meant to capture changes this fast. That is because changes this quickly don't generally happen. Most of these changes took millions and tens of millions of years. This one is happening in a hundred, 4-5 orders of magnitude less time.
There has long been some grave misunderstanding with what data like these mean. What these data do show: factors other than human activity affect the earth’s temperature. What these data do not show, but still some people see: therefore humans cannot affect Earth’s temperature. Imagine seeing a graph of the number of people that have died over the past 50 million years and using those data to conclude that OJ didn’t murder Nicole Brown-Simpson.
Do you know what the Earth looked like 485 million years ago? Pre-Pangea? You must be one of those naive people Okeechobee talks about. If "climate change" is a "conspiracy theory" shouldn't you people be all in on it. I mean that's all you guys do is believe in conspiracy theories. This should be right up your alley, no?
Got it. deflect and insult. To the contrary I realize this is a religion to ‘people like you ‘ and as such anything indicating otherwise is blasphemy. Climate change is not a conspiracy. Of course the climate changes. The grift is the bankrupting people with nonsensical energy policy like banning coal plants, nuclear plants, refineries, pizza ovens, natural gas to warm a house and my favorite of banning meat because of cow farts. Only a numb nut would do things so absurd
Setting aside the fact that your points are fairly calmly rejected factually (although you appear to be ignoring that), you keep saying people are being bankrupted. Who are these people that are being bankrupted? You switch from entire countries being bankrupted to individuals being bankrupted, as if it is factual, but never show any evidence to that effect.
So your argument is since man didn’t cause the warming millions of years ago, there is no way they are causing it now. It’s a ridiculous argument. it’s like saying Billy Napiers coaching was not responsible for the gators performance during the Ron Zook years so there is no way he is responsible for the gators performance now.
At this point it’s like arguing the moon landing was fake. 97% (at least) of climate scientists agree man causes global warming. Even staunch conservative politicians. basically it’s a few pundits like Tucker and random posters on X promoting a video of an “expert” from his basement. McConnell asked if global warming is caused by man: “I do. The question is how do you address it. … The way to do this consistent with American values and American capitalism is through technology and innovation … not to shut down your economy, throw people out of work” More than 99.9% of studies agree: Humans caused climate change | Cornell Chronicle
