I was talking about Duke. Which has been in the ACC for decades. So maybe check your references. My UTah answer was in the post before this one. Utah was not in a major conference but they were the main state school.
Ok, fair enough. But Duke sucked at football and was a basketball school until Spurrier was there Duke was homecoming material for UF back in the day.
The "Power conference" thing is relatively new, back in the 80's or 90's nobody really talked about stuff like that.
He was referring to Duke, that's why he said they played , unc, Clemson, fsu, nc st., uva etc. Not sure those schools were great back then or if that's who Duke even played back then but yeah he was referring to SOS and Duke in that part of his post
Clemson was very good in the 80s. Like as good as fsu when fsu was top 5 in the nation. And Duke beat them in 89. Tech won the natty in 90. Duke also beat Tennessee under spurrier in the 80s. To say spurrier had no experience playing big time football schools is simply wrong.
I remember the few years those teams were good. Nothing like the sec though. Power conference has always given me a chuckle.
