I sure hope not. We have the framework of a decent roster but there are major holes

The people that this needs to be sent to are the ones constantly crying about offensive scheme and playcalling.

    Just my humble opinion,
First off hire a football GM who's entire responsibility is running all aspects of the program. Ran Carthon maybe? Average NFL GM makes about $3m. Should be doable and take the football team completely off the AD's plate. For Coach, I would say Lane first choice. He is the only one that seems to have a clear separation that is possibly available. If that fails, Kerwin. (Ducking from incoming as I type) Snatch his son back from Pitt as OC, which is what BN should've done. Make sure his DC is solid with GM input. If it works, which is all a shot in the dark (see Muschamp and Mac, now Napier), groom Kade to take over when Kerwin hangs it up. With Kerwin, if it fails, it will probably be a smaller price tag than we've got now. Regardless, we won't be wondering if he could do it or not. One prop to SS. He did bring Petty to the swamp. I just wish the stadium wasn't emptying out these days before it gets played.

I believe Urban understands the difference between love for the game versus the passion required to run a major college football program. That in my mind is the "ship that has sailed", for him. The more I think about Kiffin as a option, the more uncertain I become as to he being a long term good for the University of Florida football program? It leads me to believe ultimately the search party will make a selection based in part on someone's expanding resume, as well as raw potential to take Florida to the promise land! As a fan I'd like to think or hope the search party consists of folks with a deep understanding of college football, as well as established ties of 10+ years to the University of Florida.

Great point bro — for picking up where he left off, 14 years is more relevant. And that’s still a long time. Not a show-stopper by any means, but a factor in considering likelihood of success. The fire burns differently after a long layoff.

I completely understand that even the mighty Nick Saban was mediocre as an NFL coach, but the BS that Meyer pulled as Jags head coach was clearly quitting on the job. I mean, what head coach elects to send the team home without him after getting their asses kicked so he can stay and party in the town they just lost in?

To me there’s more than one warning flag popping up with Meyer. And it’s not 2008 anymore — that was 16 years ago

He is 60 yrs old and never head coached above the FCS level.
Fans roll their eyes when a successful mid major D1 name is brought up. But mention Bell and people are ok with that. It's just ridiculous.

Why has he never been offered even a low level FBS D1 HC job?
Even Napier was successful in the Sunbelt before Florida.

Exactly. I have been saying this over and over... The scheme has not been that bad. We just dont expand on any of our formations, and we runs the same plays alot.

Meyer talk here is silly. Only way would be remotely possible AND a good fit would be as a "GM" position as suggested by some.

Unfortunately, the ones you’re calling the framework will be the ones with the most options. The ones you’d be happy to purge will be the ones wanting to stay, because they don’t have those options.

The Bulls appear to be smitten with Kiffin, as does much of the fan base. That’s great, he might just be the right guy at the right time to return Florida football to the glory. Okay, but what if Sexton just uses this to squeeze Ole Miss for more $$$$ and Kiffin rejects UF. What then, who’s next?? This is where it will get real dicey, fast.

Here are the top 25 highest paid coaches in college football. Which ones are truly realistic possible candidates for the UF job? Of those, who would you be thrilled to see UF land?

The Top 25 Highest-Paid College Football Coaches in 2024

I would definitely kick the tires on and see if they want a change:
    Dabo-Lincoln Riley-Ryan Day

Dan Lanning could probably be had, with the right offer.

After that, is there anyone who would make you stand up and shake your pom-poms if he was hired here? The pickings are slim, imho, not a great time to be shopping. There are no must have up and coming guys out there right now. No coordinators jump out either as take a shot on me.

Supposedly the administration is saying they want to hire a successful experienced P4 HC this time. They don’t grow on trees though. This is where Scott Woodward was 3yrs ago. He wanted a big fish and thought he had Lincoln Riley, until USC came in at the last hour and snagged him. Woodward then pivoted to overpaying Brian Kelly. Will UF have to pivot and what will it look like?

Matt Rhule would be an interesting choice out of the top 25 list.

If Kerwin Bell had not been a QB here decades ago, this board would meltdown and cease to exist if he was even in our top 10.

He has an 18-18 record at WCU. And while it is an improvement over the few years before he arrived, the previous coach actually did much better at turning the program around. He just ran out of gas eventually.

There is a reason he has never gotten a real look from even mid major FBS schools.

    Kerwin is a legend.
Kerwin is extremely unqualified to coach this program.

His offense is averaging 20 ppg this season

    20. Points.

If he was at least having success at an App State or Coastal Carolina level, then maybe, but he isnt even landing those jobs.

Fair, I think people forget, he only had two poor seasons at UF and immediately went to tOSU(without Mullen and Strong) and went undefeated. Then turned them into a Natty contender every season.

This was a roster before the season started, capable of winning 7-8 games with a competent coach. In fact before the season started I saw this team with a floor of 4-5 wins and a ceiling of 7-8 wins, but that was based on winning 3-4 games within its first 5 games. Now Im hoping the team can find 2 wins...possibly 3, but reality tells me 1 win could be all we see in the first 5 games?

The next topic in fact to generate hits in this forum, will probably be about the team as it begins to fray at the edges to the point, that it readily becomes apparent to those of us looking from the outside in. Again I believe those calling the shots or at least involved know, this team isnt even close to seeing the center of the storm yet. Lets hope it isnt a category 5 storm and instead just a level 2 or 3 storm. For myself Im preparing for the worst, that way Im not surprised by anything and instead pleasantly surprised when it isnt as bad as I feared.

Yep there’s no denying what he was able to do back then. My only question is the likelihood of a repeat performance with so many years passed
