I'd be completely fine with an agreement to stop any negative campaigning by both sides. Let them both sell a positive message.

Thanks for admitting you are partisan. At least you own it. Some on here don't.

If you really want to use that quote as proof, it may at least be worth noting that his actual statement was that he would only be a dictator on day one, but not after that.

Of course the things he said he would do on day one that would make him a dictator are closing the border and drilling for oil, so I think there’s a strong possibility that either he doesn’t know what a dictator is, or perhaps that statement wasn’t intended to be literal.

If I recall he added the qualifier "but not after that" in an interview with Sean Hannity some time after the original quote that he would be dictator from day one.

Oh, I am. I wanted Haley bad and, yeah, I just hate Trump and his supporters even more. This is very much the 180 of 2016 for me. Another vote purely out of spite, but in this case against him. Sadly, I'll have to accept another 2-4 years of D fecklessness, but at least it won't be a stupid, unhinged idiot and his even dumber fanbase.

MAGA can't. Hope is not nor has it ever been a part of their message. It's all about selling how bad America is.

Although, weirdly enough, there was nothing of the sort in the post you're quoting. But, whatever. It is what it is. And MAGA tears are going to taste delicious, especially if there's a "revolution" and corresponding put down as well.

So the right is asking to tone down the rhetoric…..while their leader is fanning the flames. Calling dems “the enemy”. He is purposely instigating his followers.

“ they are the ones that are destroying the country — both from the inside and out……..It is called the enemy from within. They are the real threat,” Trump said.”

Trump blames Democrats’ rhetoric for latest apparent assassination attempt

I may be wrong, but I’m not sure the original quote exists (at least from him).

Liz Cheney and a White House correspondent wrote opinion pieces about how concerned they were that he would be a dictator, Hannity asked him about those and whether he would be a dictator and his response was “no, except for day one because on day one we’re going to build the wall and drill baby drill,” and then he repeated that same “only for one day because we have to build the wall and drill” line in a speech to some Republican club later that same week.

Everyone thinks he said something broader than that because Biden’s campaign manager promptly came out with the “he says he’s going to be a dictator and we should believe him” line, but as far as I know there’s not a broader quote than that.

To me this seems mostly like a prime example of Trump’s remarkable inability to stay on message (or remarkable ability to say stupid things that get him attacked and distract from what he’s trying to do, however you want to frame that).

Apparently Trump made his original statement and later qualified it in the same interview with Hannity. After he made the statement Hannity asked him for clarification and Trump's reply (paraphrasing) was only on day one and that it would be limited to closing the border and more drilling for oil. If I recall Trump used the phrase "Drill, baby drill" in reference to more drilling although ironically we're producing more oil than at anytime in history.

Another brain-dead JD Vance take with which you unsurprisingly agree. That shooter was researching campaign schedules of both Biden and Trump and somehow that is explained by political rhetoric against Trump? Ok, good.

One has to remember that both JD Vance and Trump are targeting their rhetoric towards low-information voters who are already predisposed to believe whatever their preferred candidate says.

Somewhat ironically, Vance’s quote about the original shooter may actually fit this attempt, but didn’t fit the first one.

This guy seems to be a “we can’t let Trump become president or it will be the end of everything we love” true believer, while the first guy just seems to have been a loser who thought that killing a famous person would earn him notoriety.
