I think that we have way more issues to get solved than just Billy. I say let him own this season. He made this mess, don't let him off the hook. Make him work. As for Scott Striclkin, he should have been been fired yesterday. Everyone knows that he is not going to be hiring a new coach. His record is terrible. Fire Stricklin and get a new AD this season. That will set us up to hire a new coach after the season is over. Billy makes it to the thrashing against UGA IMHO. So I vote the gauntlet. The fact that we ned a Pres., AD, and HBC is the perfect storm. UGH!
Kiffin should be the first choice and we should make him the highest paid coach in the country. Only after that should we consider anyone else. And if we hire Urban, we are going to be right back in the situation we are in within 5 years max. He is not long term imo. Also the press is going to hound him like no other coach ever when he gets another job coaching. They cannot stand him. Any little issue is going to be magnified x100. But if we can't get Kiffin, I would be good with Urban. Just know that when he takes a job, the press is going to be relentless with him, and it will only get worse the more successful he is. But first we have to pull up the brinks truck to Kiffin's house and hope imo. Anything less than the 2nd highest paid coach and we weren't really trying. We should really offer 1 mil a year over Kirby if we are serious with a smaller buyout.
Norvell has shown that he can put together a winning team. That may be acceptable for non-elite teams in the new CFB world.
Shane Matthews discussed three names on his show this morning--Lane, Lincoln Riley, and Jeff Brohm. He gave several reasons why Kiffen is the one: 1.Dream job 2. No state income tax 3. Likes to fish 4.The Florida brand is different 5. Better Recruiting 6. Lanes ego and the challenge to build the program again.
I don't fault Lane for how rebuilt Ole Miss. He has them relevant, whereas we ate in the toilet! Besides, Mississippi isn't exactly the hotbed of recruiting.
I don't know if it's a typo or just the grossest yet apt description for our current state of affairs. But "ate in the toilet" is a line worth remembering!
You make a very valid point. However, according to what's being said by several alum, UF is going to pursue Kiffen. I've never been a Lane fan, but he knows offense and is a winner! Because of Lane, recruits would WANT TO BE GATORS! I think he's the best splash hire. But, SOS is high on Jeff Brohm! Another possibility is Ryan Day. Ohio State fans are not happy with him and would thank us! My two cents.
Do we want to keep a lot of these players. Seem like good kids as far as off field but the "want to" on the field seems lacking. Now that could be coaching but still.
I'd think so. High character kids. Highly rated from high school. Someone already reminded us what Coach Spurrier said about beating yours with his and then beating his with yours. I think it's mostly development/coaching. Just my 2-cents though.
If UF were to swing and miss on Lane what are peoples thoughts on James Franklin? Probably should have been hired awhile ago, but he's got a decent track record. Yes, he's struggled in the big games which could translate to struggling against upper tier of SEC play. But he's top 3 in coaches with 10 win seasons. He's been pretty stable at PSU. Change of scenery? His recruiting at about BN level and that's at PSU. He seems to put together a good staff.
