Problem is I trust donors just as much as I trust SS to make a football hire. I’d rather a bunch of geeks run some models and come up with the list. Certain factors are obvious: success at multiple schools, immediate record improvement, record vs spread, multi score wins, etc.
Napier was a perfect hire. Make less fans want to come to games so no one will push back on lowering capacity. SS is 10 steps ahead us.
Get Stricklin the hell out of there! At least the big donors are Gators. They are one of us (just much richer).
He and Spurrier earned their places on campus for life, in spades. 5 greatest accomplishments of Jeremy Foley’s career as Florida AD
Gator coaches hired (or coaxed to remain) by Jeremy Foley: 390-38, with 18 natts, including all 3 Football, both basketball, and the one in baseball. By Strikeout? 86-398, zero nattys.
Was from a FB post. Couldn't upload it, so I reproduced it manually. So no, I didn’t check thr math, but I don't need to to know that we won nattys regularly under JF, and hardly if any under SS. And the big knock on JF was football hires bc of Zook, Mac, and Chump, but he landed Urbs ( was verrrrrrryyyyy involved and indispensable in making thst sale), and also indispensable in convincing Spurrier to stay when he was being counted by NFL *prior to* 96 natty. That pretty much puts all 3 football nattys under JF.
^^^the FB post I was referring to. (Couldn't get it to upload from clip board, but was able to through galary). Fwiw.
If I'm not mistaken, the quote from Griffin after Pell was fired was, "When I heard the news, I wanted to upchuck, I thought we had a coach for life."
I don't have the slightest idea how you'd compile the overall win loss of every Gator team over over a multi year period and keep it all straight. But I went to the UAA site and did get a few numbers I think are accurate. Scott Stricklin has the been the UF AD for the last 8 years, since the Fall of 2016. In that time frame over his tenure, UF has won 13 national team titles and 44 conference team titles. He has also made 8 head coaching hires. Of those previous team totals, his coaching hires represent 0 national titles and 0 conference titles.
We are going to Starkville Saturday. We can simply leave SS there when the team heads home. Get movers to ship all of his belongings to Miss. St. There, problem solved.
That's what that supposedly BS face book post was saying. HIS hires are 0'fer. He's riding Jeremy Foley's coattails for the success UF is accomplishing.
I saw people criticizing the post for the overall athletic department win loss record being completely unrealistic. So I went to the official UAA site myself, made a list of hires, national titles, conference tiles, and compared the totals. I think I did it right, but if I am off, I don't think it's by much. I don't offer these numbers to assert Stricklin is simply riding Foley's coattails, which is an arguable point and an opinion. Only that a significant (but obviously not the only part) part of an AD's very complicated job is making head coaching hires. I think Stricklin can point to many positives over his tenure and maintaining a culture and support structure that keeps older but successful coaches around is absolutely important and not easy to do. But hiring successful new head coaches? The numbers, not the opinions, say No. Or at least not yet. And that's after 8 years.
