It’s basically the guy that taught Toney and Armstrong this crap defense. It was never going to improve. Napier just makes bad choices.

If any of you watched S&G video Nick brought up an interesting conspiracy theory about the firing timeline and in regards to the portal and redshirting.

Can players enter the portal once a coach is fired?

Rough estimate, around $11.5mil. Not sure how many tooth extractions that would cover.

Your sentiments are shared by many. Even marginal improvement would have spared his departure. But there is ZERO improvement in any aspect of the program except one and that is the talent level. The talent level has increased but the performance outcome has gotten worse. That can mean only one thing. If we had Napier’s recruiting with Mullen’s coaching we’d be a contender.

I watched the press conference and very much looked like BN was nervous. Could mean he anticipated some tough questions and being grilled or is it possible he had been told he will not be retained after this year.
I could see SS telling him all the reasons for the change which is obvious, but being there is really none on staff who has HC experience and knowing the powers at hand need time to go after one or two candidates (LK) being one, this may be the better approach. It's called buying time. It's called keeping the team from completely folding. I think BN for the good of the team would agree to this if in fact this is what's happening behind the scenes. This also gives time for UF maybe to excellerate finding a new President. Just a thought.

true. But…devils advocate- every team loses players - bench and starters- to the portal. For many reasons. Playing time. Coaching. Money being number 1. Sometimes the inverse halogens- fsu had several players on their d line jump in portal asking for more NIL. They paid them more. And they stink. Happens both ways. Players are going to come and go now more than ever. Not always going to be able to retain everyone you want to keep.

Portal doesn’t open until December 9th. You can plan on entering portal but cannot officially do so until then.

Oh, it is, just a matter of announcing it. The good news is that every ending is a new beginning.

Yes, football players can enter the transfer portal if their coach is fired during the season. The NCAA allows a 30-day window for players to enter the portal following a head coaching change.

Yep. And that list would grow, if we were to keep Billy through season. He has to be cut ASAP. Absolutely necessary Step 1.

Hopefully we can tap a worthy interim to keep the core together, and tap into some of that talent. Necessary step 2.

(Imho, first call ought to be to the OBC. Next, call up Urbs. Perhaps they can both work as OC/DC (neither will likely want their swamp legacies tainted with the likely W-L, O/DC, rather than HC results) as long term successor is sought....

It's a damn shame. It certainly wasn't for lack of resources. The UAA opened up the wallet for him carte blanche--gave him the massive staff he requested, he had the new indoor facility the lack of which has long been cited as a disadvantage... It was straight up lack of ftball IQ, and stubbornness born of hubris.

I tuned in to Miami last night, and caught a glimpse of what he could have been, had he owned his limitations and delegated OC (as Cristobol did). Defense could use some more help, but there's still plenty to work with. But UM's play calling was creative and intelligent, playing to their strengths...

Again, I blame these contracts the reward failure. Had his payday been dependent on results, he probably doesn’t sit there scratching his nuts, talking fluff idiocy about "... seeing some improvement" after vomitous losses, and instead, feeling some actual heat on his ass, woulda figured out real solutions to real problems...

Alas....we've made another double digit multi millionaire out of a guy who can't even win more games than he loses, at the University of Florida.

...and yet we have to, yet again, look for a *competent* replacement.

    Thanks Scott/Billy.

    Hope y'all enjoy your millions.

By success rate Armstrong was better. Another Billy bro brought in to make bank while being incompetent.

If we are burning guys redshirts before firing the coach, that does nothing but tarnish the programs image to future players. It's a dick move. So, based on the way things are being run, it is entirely possible if not expected.

I'm all in for Jamey Chadwell. Get him bought in before any of the other Power 4 programmes kick their coach and go calling.

    Who is the worthy interim?

And firing Billy tomorrow, or two months from now, won't affect what he gets paid.

Actually, it might affect what he gets paid, but that amount is fairly small in the bigger scheme of things. Without reading his contract, I can't be sure if it would affect his compensation at all.

Agree… just let the season ride and deal with it in Dec. we are only in game 4. Not going to make a difference when. Forget recruiting. Wait on that too. It’s a different world.
