We have seen the sad excuse for a coach that the AD made post SOS, so... I believe Matthews about that. Meyer was a Bernie Machin hire too. So that last AD at the time hired all flunkies, and this current one is no better.

Grab somebody out of Piggly Wiggly, and save the 5,000,000 for a couple of OT and DE ready to play.

Frankly, we are in a bad situation. We will hemorrhage talent through the portal and HS recruiting will be abysmal this year. Best case scenario is making a splash hire that will help limit losses through the portal but there are only so many big fish and it won't be easy to convince them to come. It also won't be easy to talk to them with the expanded playoff field. Straight to the point--forget about the Kiffins of the world.

The realistic scenario is we hire a guy that is well regarded and can bring some talent from his current team. We'll certainly need it. Our current roster is probably devastated but the incoming transfers can hopefully help limit some of those losses. From there it's up to the new guy to get the right people in place to acquire talent. Going to need a hell of a play caller, though, because that 25 schedule is just as brutal as this year's.

Yep, which means the next coach will have to dig out of a hole. Sound familiar?

I agree with you but don't be surprised if UF hires a coach or assistant prior to the end of the season for the purpose of trying to hold on to recruits and go portal fishing. I think it's very plausible especially if they get a firm no from LK. Potential names, Chip Kelly, Stoops, Drink if he doesn't make the playoffs.

Fact is we are in a real mess and it's going to take a year or two to recover no matter what is done.

Not basically at all. He was told point blank by BHG that he could hire whomever he wanted, but Steve Spurrier was going to be the next coach.

Which is why we are on automatic rinse and repeat. Chalk up ‘25 as .500 ish or worse. Then you get the cat calls for immediate winning in ‘26 and a coach bailing in ‘27.

This also means that we are a still destination job 17 years after urbs left (lol). Boy do we need a wayback machine or what, to use a mulligan on Jeremy’s hire of WM or JM.

Ugly isnt here yet but incoming and it will be nuclear level when programs raid our talent like a carcass on the savanna. Salvage is a word reserved for situations with usable items remaining. We are going to endure 10 more weeks fire sale written all over the roster and terrible press weekly. There isnt an unattached coach to take over that will have any impact on the above scenario. This is Thelma and Louise ridding over the cliff, buckle up

And I think the other issue is does firing him right now make a difference. Ultimately we are in the same boat either way. Recruiting is going to be severely damaged, players are going to redshirt and transfer, And we still have the same schedule to play.

In the end result we may be better off keeping our current head coach invested in trying to save his ass and thereby keep the players on this team invested.

We are screwed either way. We aren't going to magically win more games with an interim. As much as we hate the offense, it's really the defense that is the problem and that won't change at all.

We are basically stuck. I I don't think we have to fire him this early unless the players quit on them.

I think Gator Nation finds this out Saturday in Starkville.

If we fire him before game 5 it just opens the door too early for players transferring. While cutting him loose after Miss st, with the bye week, makes sense in theory, I don’t think it’s the wisest move. I think post Kentucky makes more sense. You are provided another bye week and it gives the time needed to get our $s in line and our house in order to help find the right replacement.

I'm not sure that we can prevent players from leaving even now, much less before or after game 5. The longer this coaching staff keeps control... the longer our players languish. They deserve better.

Agree they deserve better. But we would have a better chance of keeping the team together and they can’t use this as a redshirt year and just leave.

Is that fair to the players? Holding on to a lame duck coach just so they use up a year of eligibility.
