I didn't/don't listen because I simply (and literally) couldn't care less what people with 19th Century beliefs think.

Zelenskyites are clearly addled over the abject failure of the West’s attempt to see Putin ousted and Russia weakened and are throwing up Hail Marys, desperately seeking to establish that Russia is suffering in some small way. So I’m resolved to go tit-for-tat on that score …

The past is sorely underrated given certain notable aspects of the present. Ex: there was no threat of nuclear annihilation back then. Also, we knew what a woman was.

Whatever dude. I love how the opinions of, maybe, 20% of card-carrying Democrats represents the overall views of the society. Clutch your pearls much? Yes, you do. At least 10x a day at the current rate!!!!

Understanding the past is instructive. Living in the past gives you . . . Russia. And not a f-ing one of us is trading places with any f-ing one of them. Oh, and if you offered this sow a golden ticket to the USA she would gobble it up so fast your head would spin. What's that tell ya' Noam?

Yep, and we still have at least 30 years to go before we ever have to deal with something like this. Take particular notice of the Male/Female divide, which is almost exclusively the result of alcoholism. Oh, what a lovely country. Anyone have any Yakoff Smirnoff jokes?

Oh, and this is just 2016. It gets much worse in subsequent years.

Read a lot over the weekend about the progress of Russia’s counteroffensive in vicinity of Kursk. This video by an Estonian national appears to be the best informed on the subject. Bottom line: Russia is advancing but appears to be doing exactly what Ukraine expected and planned for them to do, so as usual their advance is coming at a very high human cost, mostly due to Ukrainian artillery and drones (not due to Javelins as I would have guessed). The take is pro-Ukrainian so a dose of salt is recommended. But Ukraine would not be able to hide disastrous losses, so that almost certainly is not happening.

I’d like to emphasize again that the land itself does not have great value; its importance is nested within how much the Ukrainians can bleed Russia, especially the conscripts, as they try to take it back.

There has been very little news recently. A little hard to discuss something like a war that's been going on for 2.5 years without news, don't you think? Most of the credible posters on here are not willing to substitute Kremlin propaganda for news.

Whenever Ukraine retreats it's strategerie. Whenever Russia retreats, the Kremlin is about to implode. Again, I don't have a dog in this fight, but you have to evaluate both sides the same.

Finally, some news. Putin is getting desperate enough to call for another conscription drive to try to increase Russian troop levels by 15% (180k soldiers). He wants this war over quick before the inflation rate gets out of control and he gets "voted out of office" the hard way. This would be Russia's third expansion of their military through conscription. Putin may also have a fear of what may happen when Harris gets elected--she may ramp up military aid to Ukraine (note that this call for troops happened after Trump was humiliated in his debate with Harris). Should also tell you something about how comfortable Putin is dealing with (and bamboozling) Trump.

I personally look forward to the day when Russian (Putin) greed and American (Trump) foolishness no longer dominate the headlines.

Are you arguing with Lee Harvey? He's going for the record for most ignored member of Gator Country, and he needs your help.

Perfect. Who’s retreating? I don’t see either side retreating at the moment. Or is this yet another instance where you’re using a word that you don’t know what it means?

So you've gone from trading territory for dead bodies to now nobody's retreating?

Putin calling up another 180,000 Canon Fodder for his foolishness.
Russians seem to care little for their young men.

It is so strange. Putin is treating his people with as much concern as did the czarists. The Russian people have always been used but how much more will they stand for?

They don't know anything different, they pretty much expect it. Part of their identity as Russians.

Hard to say. The three times in modern history that the Russian pushed back in a significant manner happened “slowly then suddenly” to channel Hemingway. In two of those cases, during the Russo-Japanese War and in Afghanistan, the Russian government ended the wars on unfavorable terms to prevent (well, postpone as it turns out) the collapse of the state. In the third, the state collapsed twice in six months, and the Communist successor state had to accept even more unfavorable terms than the Czar would have a year earlier. Everyone, even a Russian, has a bullshit threshold. I say, let’s keep helping Ukraine probe at the modern Russian’s limitations for how much nonsense he will accept from his government.
