They might have financial leverage when it comes to competing to keep Kiffin, but historical leverage dating back from 1947 to the early '60's is a moot point.

It's all about what Kiffin wants and feels is his next move, or his stay. Becasue Kiffin is pleanty rich and money might not be the deciding factor if the offers are close.

Yeah, but I just don't see it anymore. Seems Georgia is more of a Florida school than any of the Florida schools at this point. The bitter pill for someone like me is that it used to be this way when I was little, but then we took over College Football and I thought we'd never look back. Now we're literally back to the 70s again where state schools play second fiddle to several out-of-state schools.

I guess it comes down to whether he thinks he has a better chance of winning a NC here vs. Ole Miss. With NIL and the lack of in-state loyalty from kids, I don't know that it is better at this point and may be worse. Even if we get Kiffen, we're still 3 years away from seriously competing for a NC. Maybe 2, but that would require 1-2 insane recruiting and portal classes, something that isn't necessarily Kiffin's strong suit.

The other side of this is that, maybe, NIL ($$$$) makes it easier for coaches who aren't considered great recruiters as they can just delegate most of that to a recruitment staff whose only role is to recruit. IDK, just throwing stuff at the wall at this point.

In every case? Maybe with the ones you really want (right mental approach). But a lot of these guys are just chasing $$$.

On a side note, I'm just cringing inside thinking of how hard we are going to have to fight to keep the good ones we have. You know the vultures are circling.

Absolutely... it will piss me off to no end. Unfortunately, that's the system we have right now, and It's out of my control, so I try my best not to think about the NEW price of success.

The detractors aren’t making much of an argument.

So he is a flawed man? Many coaches are. And none of those flaws are fatal

He will leave us in a bad spot? That’s total bs. In every job he had he left it in a significantly better place than he found it.

That we may only get 5-6 years out of him? That will also include 4+ playoff years. Thats better than the likely alternative of 3-4 years of failing with a different coach. Sure we’d all love the 15+ year excellent coach, but who is that?

I second the motion to start pronouncing his name as NAP instead of NAPE. NAPier because ol boy is asleep at the wheel.

Edit: To the c'mon man, is he not?

I wonder if sleepy boy is going to be like Coach O, "What time you want me to leave and which door you want me to go out of?"

It’s not a moot point to them or the boosters that finance their program, they believe Kiffin can get them back to their glory years just like we hope he can us. 1962 might be ancient history as far as youngster are concerned, but so is 2008… but I guarantee you that Kiffin and the power brokers at Ole Miss do understand that Ole Miss does have a history before 2020.

Of course it doesn’t boil down to just money, and I never said it did, but it may (will) be a factor as you rightfully say.

I’m not trying to start an argument but the notion that Kiffin would “walk” to Gainesville as some so called pundits have said is nonsense. You may not believe history older than 10 years is pertinent , but they do… and in fairness to them the original post I responded to said “in Ole Miss history, not in the last so many years of history.
We need to lose some of our arrogance about the actual difference between our program and programs like Ole Miss ( both as fans and as an administration ), because that has contributed to where we find ourselves right now.
We may well end up with Kiffin as a coach, but it’s going to be a knock down drag out battle, and we can’t afford to view it any other way.

It’s that factor as much as any why I’ll probably end up hoping we get Kiffin. That might even strengthen our recruiting in the wake of Billy’s departure

Hopefully. It would definitely help the play calling and offensive coaching in general.

Just depends on does he want a job that can potentially compete every year for a national title
    - theoretically you can at Florida
    - Ole Miss will never be Bama, LSU or Georgia

Should be interesting -- but looking at the history of successful UF hires -- it was extremely obvious when both Spurrier and Urban were hired

Ole miss will pay him as much as we can and will - he could work there for 30 years and lose 3-4 games a year and they would build a statue

I feel like Kiffin went all in this year with the portal. Haven't paid much attention to their HS recruiting. Might be a bit of rebuild after this year?

I'm not going to punch disagree because you might be right, but I would be leery of hiring a coach with less than a year as a DC. In 1997 Alabama hired a coach with a very similar profile to what you list for Schumann. Mike Dubose had been a Coordinator for 1 year. He was not ready to be a Head Coach. We all know how that turned out.

In modern CFB splash hires are even more important in order to keep your players. From a monetary standpoint it makes it more important to pay what you need to get a good coach. If you don’t then you need to way overpay to get your players and still run a high risk of the coach failing
