I hope you would be willing to accept the measly salary of only $4M per win...I know you expected more. Echos...nice call..No back rubs or naked leap frog games this isn't FSU.
I don't have the inside info like others but I think what he is saying is that after the first time he quit, he said he was sorry and it won't happen again and Shelly bought it. So he un-quits, only to do it again and get caught. So then she doesn't buy the "I'm sorry" the next time and they are out of here.
He probably ran the I'm sorry play about as much as Addazio ran the dive play until it didn't work anymore.
Okay, but it's basically 20 years and counting on this, and we're still waiting. Another myth is that if one is good and the others are bad that this presents an "opportunity" for the one team who's good. Again, still waiting to see that happen. Reality is, we were all at our best when we were all at our best. That created a buzz and dynamic within the state that kept kids engaged and wanting to go to one of those schools. Florida was the SEC before the SEC was the SEC. All championships went through our state.
All this discussion is doing is really amplifying my conviction that we should not be looking at Urbs for HC again. One clown in here will accuse me of “hating” on Meyer again, but this is just common sense
Ive seen the "I'm sorry" play for the last 2+ years so I know how she feels...in the words of the late John Candy "its like playing Pick Up Stix with your butt cheeks"
Do you remember Urban calling 3 late timeouts to rub it in Georgias face...how did that make you feel? Miss it? The guy can flat out coach period... As long as he isn't eating peoples pets in Gainesville Im on board.
Remember when we predicted that our Urban Meyer Gators were going to “massacre” the Kiffin Vols and the game turned out to be a nailbiter ?
Yes I remember and yes I miss it. That ship has sailed. There’s a few things in life I miss and can’t have back again. An old girlfriend comes to mind…… With Urbs the Bullshit/Benefit ratio > 1 Not falling for it
20 years of suck indeed, however, when Florida and FSU were last good, they were acquiring all of the generational talents from the state. See Urban and Dumbo who put up ridiculous classes. Having shit for coaches doesn't make it less true or in this case a myth. We have simply seen a string of weak coaches who failed. I wouldn't even say Muschamp failed in that regard, he was simply one sided with it. He tried to get Derrick Henry to play DE. We could have had both high school rushing record breakers on the same team at the same time if not for that. Henry was a Gator fan growing up.
I think there is an interesting opportunity here in the present moment. If we can agree that the Napier firing is immanent, and the best long term solution coaches won't be available until the end of the year, why not take a different approach altogether for the rest of this year? This is 2024 college football, by the way, nothing is sacred. This is no longer a multi-year plan, or even year to year plan sport... Its a win now, or lose your whole team (best players) to greener pastures. What if, wait for it... What if we hired Urban on a temporary 2024 contract... He gets the chance to rehab his image, and we undoubtedly put a better product on the field by the UCF game. Putting all your historical feelings aside about Urban, who puts a better more prepared team on the field after the bye week for UCF? Any of the current cast of coaches, or say Urban and Charlie Strong? Nobody here can honestly say that Urban wouldn't have things pointed in a better direction by then. Then as I said, don't marry Urban, give him the proper incentives to go "Urban Style, all in" for 3 months, and give him a $10mil incentive bonus if he can make the playoffs... Hell compel Dan to get back up in the booth with them... I think we are still paying him. If we think Lane is the guy long term, but 'Hey why would he chose UF over what he's got going at Ole Miss', well this move, and the juice that Urban could get stirred up in the team and fanbase, would probably show him why UF, by the time he roles into Gainesville, and UF has won 5 of 6 including (UT, LSU and Tenn)... Ok, so thats maybe a field too far... but, what I just described is the only plausible scenario where we have any chance to feel that type of excitement this year... Meyer/Strong 2024!
