Folks on here like to talk about UF being a "storied" program. The problem is that too many of those stories have disappointing endings.
you are living in fantasy land and don’t merit serious discussion if you for a minute think urban Meyer is a candidate for this job
I must be the only person who just found out Monte Kiffin passed away in July. Dang, how did I miss that! A defensive mastermind and a really good guy. R.I.P. Monte
I’m sure this has been discussed as I just started reading the thread but what about Tenn (when he was there)? He left for his dream job? What about his dream job? Wasn’t it USC where he went 28-15? He’s doing well at ole miss but why forget about everything else. That said, I’m in as of now.
Good at Tenn? He went 7-6 and lost a bowl game and then jetted to USC that same year (1st), and then went to USC and did 28-15 and he’s having success at Ole Miss. oh and did 26-13 at FAU between. Again, I would be now but he’s still Kiffin and that may be good for us at this point but don’t get the love fest. It seems to be our everlasting problem.
Just a little context: Previous coach at TN was 5-7 so a 2 game turn around in yr 1. While at USC, his first 2 yrs were under NCAA sanctions(from the Bush saga) and he lost 30 scholarships. His next two years had depleted teams. So 28-15 is not too shabby. 40-4 in the regular season plus a national championship as the OC at Bama Won 2 conference championships at FAU in 3 yrs and now has Ole Miss playing its best football in school history. 37-15 since 2020 So I would say he would be a step up from Naps. He has plenty of SEC experience (9 yrs as OC/HC) and already has the recruiting ties in the south. Especially South Florida(Miami). Is there another P4 coach that would be on par or better?
Brother read my comment. I gave his some props and I even said at this point I would take it. That said I think nuance is on my side making him above average and passable but he’s just a home run in a small park. He has that confidence that SOS has but it’s more pompous. Either way, I’m just saying his once deserved “do for self” attitude is still off putting to me. Also I’m sick of leading the pack in money paid and money owed. If he comes here we’re gonna have to add some seriously sick boy out cash while giving Napier 26 million damn dollars. I would love to punch who had the final stupid call. It was literally a disincentive to bother trying. Sure if it’s easy otherwise I’ll get a bunch of money I can just invest. Or just keep less 15% of full contract. I mean I get it’s different but imagine if you could get all the money you’ll make forever but you can retire and get all that future money now and retire. I’d be traveling and having fun with family. I’d get over my great football job.
Shane Matthews had a terrific answer for this: a great player doesn't mean he will be a great coach. There are few hbc's like SOS, and an offensive genius is what we need now!!!
He recruited well and would have made that team competitive like he has made Ole Miss competitive. He's dealing with Ole Miss... and he gets pretty good talent to sign and play for that school. I don't care what people say, he could get better players to come to Gainesville that he does to Oxford (not comparing the cities, just the schools) to play football. If you have a better suggestion for a coach, then post the name, so I can give you my opinion of that coach.
Kiffin absolutely seems to be the leading and best choice among the names being mentioned heavily. Really the only thing I object to somewhat is the need to make statements like “has Ole Miss playing its best football in school history. 37-15 since 2020.” We can pretend that Ole Miss has absolutely no history of successful football all we want, but Ole Miss and many SEC fans do remember Johnny Vaught and his tenure at Ole Miss. Sure his last year was 1970 and he stared in 1947, but from 1959-1962 he lost three (3) games. Ole Miss does claim 3 national championships, all under his tenure. He also produced 6 SEC championships and only Bear Bryant 7-6-1 and Robert Neyland 3-2 had winning records against him in conference. I would be ecstatic over a Kiffin hire considering the present state of UF football he is the best choice, but let’s not get too far ahead of our selves and presume that Ole Miss doesn’t have any leverage both historically or currently. In my opinion it is not going to be the cakewalk some believe. If Kiffin is the choice the powers that be at UF are going to have to step up big time.
It's only a myth if the big 3 schools in Florida are all mid or worse at the same time, which is what we have seen over the last decade. Let one of us get a GUY and see how quickly that changes.
Didn't Urban take the OS job while they had an interim coach and he used that time to build his staff and recruit? Hmmmmmmm
