    Trump safe after gunshots in his vicinity at golf course; FBI investigating apparent assassination attempt

    One person is in custody after shots were fired near former President Donald Trump and an AR-style rifle was recovered near his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, four senior law enforcement officials briefed on the incident told NBC News.

    Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung said in a statement that the former president was "safe following gunshots in the vicinity." Authorities believe that the individual in custody had a weapon outside of the fence line of the golf course, law enforcement officials told NBC News. The officials said that the Secret Service spotted the person and opened fire after they believed the individual may have been taking aim.

    The FBI said the incident appeared to be “an attempted assassination of former President Trump,” and that it has launched an investigation.

    If the suspect is in his mid-60's, it's almost certainly a left wing nut, but will withhold final judgment until the facts come out. They have him in custody, so hopefully we'll get more information on this one than we did for the 20 year-old. (although that bar is extremely low)

    The person in custody who was shot at by the Secret Service while in possession of a semi-automatic rifle is Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, three senior law enforcement officials briefed on the matter said.

    You are correct in that a Ukraine supporter is usually not a supporter of pro-Russia Trump.

    But dontcha think this line is a bit absurd, even for....the most adamant Trumpies?
    - ....[he was] connected to Rep Adam Kinzinger through his support of Ukraine.

    Uh, numerous other people support Ukraine also.

    You might as well have typed "He shared many of the same beliefs as Donald Trump, such as that regularly breathing in oxygen is productive."

    Supports Ukraine. Supports Ramaswamy and Haley. Vocal against Trump and Biden. A mixed bag like the last guy who donated a small amount to the Democratic Party in high school but was registered a Republican who was vocal against both Biden and Trump.
