Not really. There are so many variables involved, there's no way to make a sure hire these days. Remember when everyone wanted Chip Kelly? I wouldn't say his UCLA days are all that successful.

You also need good talent evaluators and be able to get the players in order to be successful. I agree with Kirby who has said it is a 75/25 split players to coaches. Who you have on the field matters much more than coaching. That said, the margin for winning is razor thin some days, so you need that coaching to be solid.

 

What did I say that is wrong or incorrect?

 

It does seem we have some false ideals we have sought. “Experience recruiting the south”, “program builder”? Our most successful coaches were progressive rule breakers who were not beholden to one ideology. SOS installed the shotgun in 30 days!

I would look for the guy who adapts to his talent the best. “He takes his and beats yours and takes yours and beats his.” Find the guy who has proven that mental acuity and you have the makings of a winner (unless, like Mullen, he won’t hire a competent dc and is petulant).

Fisch is a great story but that is all right now. The shine on him “being a gator” wont matter when wins and losses are being counted. His hatred of uga won’t block d tackles.

If he has the chops we could interview him (and if I were aD, I would interview him anyway. Might be someone for the future since he is so young and I would want to keep good relations). That loss to wash st yesterday was bad. Nowhere near as proven as kiffin.

 

I feel the same way. If he wasn't a UF alum he wouldn't even be on our radar.

I don’t know. I don’t think any of us had much to say whether we hired Billy or anybody else. The guys with the Cash make all those decisions and they don’t consult us one bit.

And one of the things Billy said when he was hired was that this is a talent acquisition business. Yet, he failed in one important part of that - the lines of scrimmage. I believe that we have good players along the lines. We don't have great players. When we've been successful, we've had great players on the lines.

I said that Kiffin would be my first choice but I believe that he will want Jimbo money. We missed our shot at him 3 years ago IMO.

Fisch is rebuilding that Washington team just like he rebuilt the Arizona team. That Washington team is a shell of the team that played in the title game. I believe just 2 starters remained. He can't be judged by one game against a rival. We will have all season to watch what he can do. I am simply stating that he would be a realistic hire for us and someone that should definately be on our radar.

I certainly would entertain Fisch over any lower level coach or any OC or DC from another team.
