As someone who knows very close second person from both sides (his side/her side) you guys are only lacking the exact position. To answer your question Skink...it was Im sorry and oops...Im sorry...ooops...were outta here issue. Thats why the un-quit.
True, but we’re setting ourselves up for problems down the road with him. 2005 was 19 years ago. I don’t know how so many people can just ignore all that happened and how it happened and be so willing to go down that road again with a guy who is 14 years older now than when he up and quit on us (whatever the reasons). How can so many people want to bring back Meyer as head coach when so many people reject the idea of inducting him into the ROH. This is irony on top of hypocrisy Urban Meyer can win games but he has some glaring issues that should be setting off alarms
I remember two good years of Mullen. One being saved by Greenards transfer. It was like a slow motion tires coming off the bus. Grantham to trask to Pierce to recruiting…. But I am biased because I didn’t like the hire. But heck, I liked Zook and Champ
The recruiting base thing is a myth. There is ZERO loyalty to any of the Florida schools from Florida kids. Only 6 of the top 20 stayed in state last year (split evenly among the "Big 3") and that's a trend that goes back over a decade. I can see no benefit - outside of potentially insane money - to come to UF at this point.
I know for a fact that she liked Gainesville and didn't want to move back to Ohio when Urbs took that job. That doesn't seem to jive with your post.
Urban is not coming back and I am not interested in him coming back. Do you guys not remember how it ended with him and how high and dry we were left. I would rather have a geriatric Spurrier and I do not want that either.
Agree damaged goods. Great coach. Not a great man. Not our guy. Yes, capable of winning (and probably winning big again if he set his mind to it … even today). That’s what we need … a winner. Can overlook a lot for to achieve that primary mission… but not enough to trust a man who demonstrated the poor character that he did. He did not flame out because of health issues. He CHECKED out and handed his leadership responsibilities over to designees who were not capable. He took the easy path. Should have moved on when he decided he was no longer willing to do the job 100% (in contrast with his recent ‘advice’ to the Gators). These were decisions HE made (enabled by poor decision making and lack of leadership by Foley). Yes he could come back and recruit big, probably win big. But we should not risk the interests of the university on the character that he demonstrated and would likely repeat.
Name the top 4-5 coaches in college football. Most were successful coordinators at elite programs at their previous job. The best of them all was the best coordinator of the best team in college football, and he moved to a school where his regional recruiting ties and regional coaching ties instantly translated over. He effectively split the Bama monopoly in half. The coach who fits that profile to a t is available. His name is Glenn Schumann. He also grew up less than 2 hours from Gainesville. That is who we should hire. Go get him the best OC money can buy, and we are set.
No worries. I honestly thought it was more common knowledge about what really happened with Urban and the Graduate Assistant (Daughter of someone important), thought more commonly known here. Very openly talked about among Levin alumni and Bull Gators at the time. Not important now, we can stick to the G version health reason story. I'll go back in my corner now.
You want a 34 year old first time head coach to lead this program? How much of the defensive success is Schumann vs Kirby and Muschamp?
My ex wife (married at the time of the Urban fiasco) was a Levin grad. I'd sit and listen in disbelieve when the attorneys would get together at functions and just openly talk about it.. They would say "The Graduate Assistant" or who she was daughter of. One story was her Father told Shelley, but Shelley did find out. If you know her, I'm very sorry she had to go through that. My condolences.
Who takes over for next weekend? Im free! Skink maybe you can come in to give them a "soothing" lecture about their feelings over a pot of Boba tea with Yanni playing in the background. We could use a gentle soul like you to gently guide us to greatness....
