I don’t think Napier really had a “process.” He liked to use that word as a way to tell fans it would take a long time to see results and set expectations low. And it worked. After 2 losing seasons he still had a lot of supporters but the gigs up

Oregon does have a ton of money and fairly fertile recruiting grounds. Not sure why people keep painting Ole Miss as some juggernaut though. Maybe Lane doesn't want to come for reasons specific to his situation and that's fine but objectively Florida is still a better job than Ole Miss.

We shall see. I think Kiffin is certainly more likely than Lanning, but I still see a world where Lanning could leave.

You left out that Spurrier has said many times that leaving UF was a mistake.

And? You think it’s cooler at Bama? LSU? Clemson? How is FSU feeling about now?
This is our fault and the athletic department for continually trying to find the next up and comer instead of paying for the best available. Why?
Because we accept it and they are scared they will have to hire a new coach if he’s successful in 5 to 6 years. Since they don’t want to do that, they look for someone who they think will stay here for decades. The real world of sports doesn’t work like that.

Really? Who else will go to Coach #8 since 2000? As for a history of winning, since 2010, we are 107-73 (.594). Against P5 competition, we are 76-72 (.514).

A typical college graduate from 2008 would now be 38 years old. One from our first MNC would be close to AARP membership. This is not to say we are Pitt or Minnesota, who won their championships nearly a century ago, nor are we as inept as Nebraska, who fired Bo Pelini because he won "only" nine games a year, and followed that with eight losing seasons in nine years. But we aren't Bluebloods with that kind of history like Alabama, who could get a coach like DeBoer to leave a great situation at Washington to go to Tuscaloosa. Georgia has three coaches since 2000, while Ohio State has four.

Florida and Miami are pretty much in the same boat, trying to recapture a formula that once seemed too easy, but now is incredibly elusive. We will have to continue to hunt for that Right Coach, but for many of us who have been around for many decades, that search is becoming more difficult, and with NIL and The Portal, we really don't know WHERE that Right Coach will come from.

The last 2 “elite” coaches to move were Lincoln Riley and Brian Kelly. How did that work out for either program. Have they won anything? No.

It wasn't at the time for him. He was damned frustrated by several things, including the FSU incident and his perceived snubbing by Jeremy Foley. He also mentioned the entitlement of the fans. IOW, he was burned out and needed a change ("I think 12 years is long enough at any school.").

I wouldve taken either of them before Napier and we wouldve been better off obviously. UAA refuses to go after experienced coaches. They will be looking hard at Sunbelt coaches again.

But that's not what I replied to. You stated something about Kiffin having a better chance in a 12 game playoff in the modern age, or something, right?

Tell that to his family, particularly Mrs. Napier.

I'll try again. We have no proven D1 options at this time to replace Napier.

I haven't heard much from Noles about firing Norvell - yet.

Do you remember who the coach everyone wanted after SOS quit? Bob Stoops, who wasn't about to leave Oklahoma. Zook was our third choice. We always seemed to demand a HoF'er head coach to come here because of who we were.

To be honest, I am still not sure how the real world of CFB works. One thing I do know, however, is that top coaches are not standing in line to come to Gainesville...

Hire Ryan Silverfield on Monday. He’s 13-3 the last two seasons, won the last two bowl games, and is a Jacksonville native with FL ties for recruiting.

Plus, the holes would have a meltdown.
