Messing with Kiffin is like messing with a stray pit bull....he may be grateful and be your best friend or he may bite you right in the ass. He will certainly play both schools to his best outcome and rub it in after he decides. I could easily see him come to UF...thank Ole Miss and then steal all their prized recruits on the way out just as well as I could see him leading UF on and right when we thought he was coming post some rub it in your face "no thanks" and stay at Ole Miss with a big damn raise. I will say if he comes (and I think he will) he will win and win quickly. He will still be a sharp witted ass but he will be "our" sharp witted ass and good god will FSU hate him when he calls a trick play with 40 seconds left to play up 42-7 and then makes some smart ass comment about FSU at the presser....It could be glorious!
Klieman might be a good coach but has a defensive background and would excite nobody. Fans would just insert "Kansas" for "Louisiana" in all of their whining. Drinkwitz comes off as a bit of a douchewitz, offensive guy so a better fit but they just gave him a new deal so we'd have to overpay to get him. Neither is particularly appealing.
We have a history of not willing to pay for elite coaches. We may have to settle for not appealing. But someone like Drinkwitz is a clear upgrade from Napier
As much of a jerk as Kiffin is, he still hasn't done anything that has kept him from being in the conversation for big jobs the last few years. No hookers falling off motorcycles, no call girls from his work phone. Nobody's died while filming football on his watch (hello, Brian Kelly). I'm looking for a coach that's going to do his job and do it well. If he fits the bill, let's go.
What did Bama pay debour. Better job atm with a ready made roster and no rebuild. Starting the bidding above that.
I happen to agree with you. I don't think he's got it in him to go thru the grind again! I sure hope we pick the right coach when we do it again though. We've got to have someone who can recruit, build the program, and hire excellent coordinators. This is so hard to find it seems.
Gale Garnett not Crystal Gayle, but I’m not sure the fact that we both remember a song from 1964 says anything except we’re both old as hell. Seriously, I don’t disagree about the circumstances of Urban’s leaving, and I don’t see much of a chance of him doing a second tour, but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen.
Urban was a great coach, but has had too many personal issues that could adversely affect his coaching.
Napier not relevant since we're talking about scenarios in which we've moved on from him. I don't think Drinkwitz has shown himself to be elite enough to be worth the money it would take to get him. If there were an actual elite coach available that was worth the cash then I'd be for it.
Agreed on drink. Drink should have lost last year to bad florida team at home. He's solid but underwhelming for what we are looking for at this point although we would take his recent history over Napier in a heartbeat.
Meyer chose UF in large part because of the SOS legacy. He said as much, I believe. Is UF still "Top of The Mountain"? Is Meyer a mountain climber now?
For Klieman he has won everywhere he’s coached so far. At this point I think Gator fans want to win, doesn’t have to be an offensive wunderkind. Any fan that would equate Billy’s Louisiana with a Big 12 Kansas State deserves Billy coaching their team a long time. Is that what you want freedom? Billy coaching here a long time?
Meyer was a master motivator and used psychology to endear himself to the Gator faithful. He embellished a lot of stuff when he first got here to his benefit which was brilliant. Talking about sitting in the middle of Florida field at night during a recruiting trip for notre dame was just one example. Not a knock. It was well played and while there may have been truths to it I think Gator nation puts a bit too much weight in those sentiments.
I put weight on elite football. We won two titles with him and had elite recruiting classes. There may be a few better options out there but not many. He’s had elite success at 4 schools and zero failures.
