I typically associate lights with offensive action. In the defense I prefer stealth. Especially, defending my own terrain at night.

It’s amazing the reality bubbles people put themselves into.

Might be valid depending on your house and situation. If you have a reasonable path to getting people into a safe room with a funnel where you can hole up, then sure. Get there and wait it out. That said, you still need to be able to positively ID what comes through.

That said, should the layout of your home, your circumstances, and who is living with you may dictate otherwise. If an intruder is between my kids and I, I will absolutely be on offense until my kids are safe.

 

If you really want to play statistics, and assuming you’re getting your 5 per year from that WaPo article, 10 of those 51 defensive AR uses were in Florida.

So, looking at Florida only, ARs are more likely to be used in self-defense than they are in mass shootings, which practically never happen using ARs in Florida. But somehow you think you’re going to be killed unless ARs are banned.

 

It isn't a needs thing. The second amendment does not say "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state; the right of the people to keep and bear only those minimal arms as random third parties judge that they need shall not be infringed".

Fact is that rifles are considerably more effective at stopping a threat than pistols are, and in a situation that requires deadly force, people want every possible advantage they can have. It's not hunting; there is nothing sporting or fair or gentlemanly about it. That goes out the window the moment someone else decides they value their wants more than your safety of those of your loved ones.

How so? He literally was talking about a football coaches ability to determine which guns are in play.
He said it didnt matter what any non gun expert says.

Thats a bit different than saying he shouldn't discuss gun violence.

 

Lol. ARs get bought and sold off to Mexico and Haiti, in addition to being used in the US.

We're the world's illegal gun supplier. All so....well, so some people can shoot up schools and other public places. And other people can pretend to use them to defend themselves.

But they're not, for the largest part, going to people who legimately use them to defend themselves. Obviously.

 

You’d still be defending your home. It’s not offense. Offensive action would be if you were the one conducting the intrusion.

 

Well yes, but my point is even in the context of defending your home, there is sometimes a need for offensive maneuvers, and stealth isn't always an option nor the appropriate tactic given the situation.

Why do you live in an area where this is likely to happen?

 

I have three neighbors who are dangerously armed. One is a retired Marshall he is or was licensed to carry in all fifty states. I have never seen him with a weapon he says he does carry a weapon when needed but he carries so no one can see it.

I have other neighbors where he is a retired marine. He and his wife go to gun ranges and compete in clearing a room contests(I honestly don’t know what it is or what it is called). They always carry and they practice by clearing every room in their house when they come home. The third one may or may not be in witness relocation. He says guns are for pussies who don’t care about art. I am most polite to him.

why would I need a gun?

 

Don't we all know by now none of this self-defense stuff is based on likeliness or rationality? Our gun policies are based on fantasies and fear porn, driven mostly by gun hobbyists who are in more danger at the shooting range than in their home. I would venture that most of the people posting about self-defense and protecting their family on this forum live in a neighborhood where the only crime that happens is light vandalism, and maybe the occasional car break-in, and the most violent things that happen are perhaps domestic in nature. But everyone's prepping for The Purge.

 

Not surprising with SOS. He was all-state in football, baseball, and basketball.

 

Regarding SOS’s comments, we need to remember he was an offensive genius. Defense was not his forte.
