(VB) Ongoing Volleyball Thread

Did anyone catch scrappygator's call yesterday to WRUF's "The Tailgate"? He set Jeff Cordozo straight on the pronunciation of Isabel Martin's name. He directed Jeff to the team's roster page and for him to listen to Isabel phonetically pronounce her own name. Good job scrappy; I enjoyed your call.

 

I can't tell if it is Martin or Marteen with her heavy accent.

Tech won the first set 25-19
Behind in set 2 17-11 at this time..we are having trouble with GT

 

Once again this lineup offers no back row attack. The blocks are either not well aligned/closed or the back row is not rotating correctly with the block because the holes are big. I can't tell with this side view. On TV which is why I like end court viewing in person The blocks also don't appear to have consistent press, just soft block. 3 service errors and 2 receiving errors every set is also a recurring problem. The serving in general is not very good especially if you factor in the missed zones. Been like this for years but we keep the same ones playing. I do really like Engel, she is very comfortable at the line and right back. I'm wondering if Rothe can play outside as good as she looks at right. Having a bigger outside is needed for this team even if we get stucky and Kennedy back. It's just real tough to play against quality teams with undersized outside hitters.

 

Also, doesn't it seem like we are doing the power dink more than we ever have? At almost every hitting position that type of contact is more prevalent than I ever remember. Is this a national trend? I haven't watched nearly enough to determine that but our opponents seem to use the old throw down at a much fewer clip.

So frustrating not to be competitive in any of our fall sports. Pardon me, X Country teams. You guys have to carry the load now.

Hoping we can stage a huge comeback here.

Ugh..got swept

 

3 more service errors and was aced 6 more than they were...18 point swing in a match we lost by a total of around 16 points. This game at it's heart is serve and receive and with half our roster full of those specialists we seem to lose this phase of the game. more often than not. What really stinks is the errors today came from other positions, we just can't get a clean match.
While parks is doing pretty good as a freshman, we are pretty predictable right now and I will say it again, I can't stand this overuse of the push attack. It's starting to get called more each game and with our service error rate and net violation frequency we give way too many freebies already.
Geez, sure hope we cam get healthy fast enough to get in sync with new players before it's too late in the season. Are we expecting stucky to be on point with everyone with a third of the season gone?

 

We are without our 2 best players and several others that would be major contributors. This is a VERY short-handed team. A healthy Gator team is a national tile contender. Service errors have been a major issue to me for several years, as you just can't give away that many free points to quality teams and expect to win.

How many days until conference play starts?is the plan to hold out stuckey,Martin and others until then?

 

First SEC match is 9/26 at Oklahoma.
