At this juncture, I just want a win. I'd like to see Spurrier toss the visor 25 yards from the pressbox. Napier do a Lou Holtz facemask deal. Downfield passing. Speed. Lose the conservative play-calling idiocy. Play to win. Napier has to know the scene.

Mertz, DJ...doesn't matter-creative play calling and aggressive football.

Let's go Gators. All for the Gators, stand up and holler!

    Go Gators.;)

So now….we’re gonna go after Emmitt too, and be mad at him, spewing negative comments everytime his name is mentioned ?

Sometimes the things people say about our former players is a head scratcher.

We don’t need other fan bases to speak poorly about our players……we excel at it, revel in it, and won’t stop.

    smdh !!!

I've had the feeling that Emmit was never really "married' to the program ever since he became one the first players of note to depart early for the NFL. It's nothing unusual in these times but it did come as a bit of a shock back in 1990. Of course, I absolutely don't resent him for doing what he thought was best for his future and that of his family. But the scuttlebutt back then went something to the effect that he didn't care for the pass happy O Spurrier was bringing in and the HBC didn't exactly twist his arm to stay. Nothing ugly or weird about it, but the "I can take it or leave it" mindset toward UF FB is nothing new. But once a Gator, always a Gator and I suppose this gesture of respect by the FB program is aimed at mending some fences and rekindling some great memories of the most storied NFL player to ever pass through Gainesville. As it turned out, Ericht Rett was extremely effective as Emmitt's replacement in Spurrier's O, and they never skipped a beat when it came to a maintaining a strong running game to complement the pass. In hindsight, things seemingly worked out well for everyone - which suits me just fine. GG! Beat A&M!

He's entitled to. I still remember Emmitt being virtually our ENTIRE offense.

    Emmitt left...Emmitt center...Emmitt right.

    An all time great Gator.

Wrong. I met him several times. Unlike many here, I don't throw Gators under the bus...especially all-time greats. He is entitled to his opinion, just as we all are. He also returned to graduate from Florida, well after it was no longer necessary.

Meet him outta reach of media and cameras. He’s an ass. His dad on the other hand was a really nice man. Putting on a Gator uniform doesn’t excuse behavior.

Emmit chose between us and Auburn. He always thought he would win the Heisman, and a Natty. Which he probably would have at the Barn.

When the NCAA cracked us, this didn't pan out, in spite of Emmitt basically carrying our entire offense. When he was injured in 1988, we were 5-0. We lost the next 4 until he returned. He was that good.

When Spurrier arrived, it is hard to exactly sort out what happened. Spurrier said that he wouldn't talk a player out of going to the NFL, if that was in his best interest. Others said that Spurrier didn't exactly make Emmitt feel welcome. I dunno.

Somewhere in there may be a reason why Emmitt doesn't fawn all over us.

He was on the broadcast booth together with Eddie George for the 2006 title game. George gave him an osu jersey and emmit said he would sit on it. Very gator!

he didn’t mention the gators in his nfl hof speech.

I don't believe that anyone can reasonably expect any grown man to fawn all over anyone - ever. And a "fair" recitation of such a nebulous situation obviously lies in the eye of the beholder and can only be expressed as an opinion, not a known fact. But there is no doubt that the coolness of the relationship has seemed to persist to this day. Hence my own personal view that the Mr. Two Bits honorarium may be an olive branch that I personally view as being a fine idea. Perhaps the prodigal son can be brought back into the UF milieu with a show of appreciation and goodwill. One way or the other, ES is his own man and will do as he sees fit going forward - with no fawning required. It really isn't that big a deal at this late date anyway, but a thaw would be nice.
