I saw that video. It seemed like cops being dicks. They got mad that he rolled up his windows while the cop was writing the ticket. It’s Florida it was hot and humid.
He has one violent charge. 10 years ago in college. The incident with his child was dropped because audio emerged that actually showed the childs mother may have been the cause. His only other incident was a slap to the back of the head of a guy who didnt even press charges. So he has one legit violent charge. Hardly a "regular" basis and almost a decade ago. What he did that night was terrible in Oklahoma, but lets discuss this honestly.
I agree there are situations where cops have it rough. But traffic control isn’t one of them. Other than working in the heat.
The guy he smacked didn’t press charges because he got paid. He was ready to go hit him again but was fortunately restrained by his group. No, the recording where he calls her a dumb bitch and that she should be terrified of him, and where he admits to punching his 3 year old in the chest, does not indicate she was the cause of his broken arm. But he is great at football so let’s white knight for him.
Give me a break. He rolled up his window because he was being an entitled dick, not because he was hot. Rolling your windows up is a sign of danger for police officers. Defending this is ridiculous.
^^^ Except for the part about how he behaved when he got pulled over. I've been pulled over for something as minor as one of my license plate lights being out...in a parking lot. You never know. For me this isn't an "or" issue between the police and the driver; it's an "and" issue. I can absolutely appreciate the criticism of the police; I also think it's appropriate to criticize Tyreek's behavior once he got pulled over. I'd be curious to know if he had ever been pulled over before; if he has, does he always act like that? Looked like the behavior of somebody who has never been pulled over before that has watched too many youtube videos. I get that some will focus more on the police behavior. I look at this scenario as a dad of young drivers, and the biggest takeaway for me is that if you don't treat people with respect, there's a greater chance that they will get agitated. What they *should* do is out of your immediate control, you might find yourself complaining about that later on the right side of the law but on the wrong side of bars (depending on the situation, obviously). This was the case with some of the protestors recently on campus. It's up to the individual to decide if the juice is worth the squeeze in this regard. If time is your most valuable commodity, keep it cool, and file a complaint about it afterwards. The upside to doing it differently doesn't seem worth it, but that's an individual evaluation. The other issue is, I wonder if our ask is greater than our give when it comes to police behavior. There is a similar talking point when it comes to teachers. What I mean is, if we want to expect more from the police, is it more appropriate to give them more resources to justify the expectation (not just training, but compensation)? I wonder how many of the folks who criticize the police would trade places with them. Just food for thought. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
A lot of cops make unnecessary traffic stops for non-traffic or ticky tack reasons (which passes for "standard" in our citations/asset forfeiture=revenue society). Seems very preventable to me. But if we have a society where cops are incentivized to rob and fleece citizens to have cool police stuff, they have to expect a few casualties. There are risks in doing crime.
Why? Stopping a guy who would shoot cops when you dont really have to seems like its putting cops in more danger, not less.
Being an asshole isnt a crime. Cops harassing and assaulting citizens over petty offenses is more of a threat to all our civil liberties than Tyreke Hill being a dick. This is America, we are allowed to be obnoxious dicks if we want. Shit, its basically encouraged if you are as rich as Hill.
