Jesse Palmer starting in 97 comes to mind. Not sure who else played but I’m sure someone did at least during mop up.
Driskel was 15-6 as a Gator before he got benched. Emory was 4-3 when he lost the starting job. Mertz is 5-8 right now. This fanbase isn’t that forgiving so what do we need to see from Mertz before we move on? Winning and losing is still predominantly, fair or unfair, rests on the QB’s shoulders.
Who’s accountable? Players? Coaches? Fans? Administration? I hate that the fans are entitled for pointing stuff out.
All of the above with the exception of the fans. How many of us are part of the offseason, practice, game planning, play calling, etc?
Not sure that I can disagree. Do you see any signs whatsoever that we are on a trajectory to competing for championships? Any signs of hope at all???
That's what I noticed about that one game too. Plus Mertz played timid and was way off on his throws even from the start.
Our line didn’t protect Mertz either. First game back and he ends up knocked out. DJ better protect himself too.
The O-line did NOT have their best combination of players either. And we made no noticeable in-game adjustments to swing the QB to one side or another... the left side being the optimal side. All that should have been easy tweaks to make, but the coaches did nothing, and it was excruciatingly painful to watch during the game. We had a 6'3" H-back that weighed around 225 pounds blocking their defensive end... total mismatch. I said that if we came back out, we should use 6 O-lineman instead of a sacrificial receiver/tight-end trying to block a defensive rush-end. Right now... we should run with 6 O-lineman the rest of the year. That's what I would do to help out QBs out. Run with 6 O-lineman.
I'm not sure that we have one on the team, but you never know. If we do, and he hasn't been identified, I'm sure some people will want to question that oversight.
