No, they are all good at their job. There are no Billy Napier’s in the NFL, but they need Tom Brady’s to be Successful.

I'm warming up to signing Kiffy long term with a tiny buyout clause and he hires a top notch DC. I'm imagining what he could do with three years of JD. Hmm.

Incentive based buyout clauses need to start happening. Losing record for x amount of years gets a predetermined significant reduction. Fire a middle of the road coach with a winning record would cost the school more. Just spitballing general ideas a confident coach should be willing to agree to. Still get their cushion but get penalized for not achieving predetermined goals.

I despise Finebaum, but I think he's right about Kiffen would come to UF (source below). Elite Florida recruiting talent, and he would not have to hit the TP as hard. I expect Ole Miss will probably offer Lane more money than UF would. So, if he comes, I believe you are spot-on; he would come here for different reasons. I know how the higher ups feel about Lane, and they cringe at hiring a loose cannon. Nevertheless, Lane is one of the few coaches that could probably keep DJ and most of the team intact.

Would Lane Kiffin have interest in Florida job?

Nice history. This is where I'm at--I am losing interest in watching Gator football, and it kills me! My dad hooked me on Gator football in the late 1950's. I remember Larry Libertore very well. I hate Tennessee, but they have a fun offense to watch. Our offense is painful, and the defense is no better! If, in year three there was a glimmer of hope with improvement, it would make sense to keep BN. Next year, we will still struggle in the trenches, and we will lose to GA, Texas, Tennessee, and so on. It appears Kiffen is the guy, and it pains me to say that. UF needs to overlook his quirkiness, and make an enticing offer!

It's an odd self-antipathy that keeps popping up, that Gator fans are somehow uniquely unreasonable. As though all sorts of other programs don't wail and gnash their teeth at losses or complain about their coaches not being as successful as they want them to be. DeBoer will certainly hear it when he drops his first game or two. And what happens to Ryan Day and his otherwise gaudy win/loss record if he loses another to Michigan? Because OSU fans have a track record there too. Or Tennessee cycling through coaches. Or Auburn. Or Texas. After Jimbo walked out on FSU, Taggert got a whole 18 months to fill his shoes. Heck, in just the past ten years, LSU fired two different coaches who had won nationals titles for them. It's just big boy college football. We're all unreasonable.

Bernie Machen came from Utah, so it made perfect sense to hire Urban.

If Lagway and his family are fine with Lane, let’s go. If we have the opportunity and don’t pony up the cash, I’ll lose interest .

In the event the powers that be decide a coaching change is to be made there is another reason I think Lane Kiffin might not be offered. If this Ole Miss team should do very well this year and go deep into the playoffs that would most likely mean Kiffin would not make any commitment, certainly no announcement, until sometime in January. That may cause havoc with members of our team hitting the portal and recruiting.
If Ole Miss is in position to make the playoffs and he should commit to us before the early signing date in December would we really want him? It would mean he told his players that he was leaving them as soon as the season is over and before the playoffs.

Don’t fire the coach until after ESD then. Just like Saban retirement

It would be more respectful in my book to be upfront if you’re going to take another job. Ask the players if they want you to stay through the playoffs or pack your shit. I’d think most players could respect him for getting a better job. If he were going to miss st, that’s different.

This is also different too. Saban being there held the class together and had a seamless hire. If this season goes badly, there won’t be much class to hold together and retired and fired is much different. It’s not like the world isn’t watching the season.

I missed several pages in this thread so someone may have already pointed this out, but keep in mind that Florida has no state income tax so the salary comparison is not apples-to-apples.
