Yes I’m glad Billy chewed Tre out. Napier has been too nice and his teams have been soft because of it from what I’m hearing from his days at ULL.
You can be a players coach and still chew some ass. My guess is that wasn’t the first time Tre did that.
Billy’s been way too nice IMO. There’s no accountability when players mess up. Guys are not getting chewed out for late hits or body slamming dudes.
It did look to me watching through binoculars from the stands that Billy was calling the plays during the Samford game. Could be wrong because I obviously couldn't hear the audio, but, he seemed to be speaking exactly in synch with when DJ was turning and listening.
That definitely needs to happen, at least at some coaching level. The penalties have not been very numerous, but, they have mostly been unnecessary and costly.
Billy’s a nice guy. Give him a medal for that. He’s the worst coach we’ve had in a long time based on what y’all telling me.
I've listened to Shane for a long time. I like what he has to say and appreciate his takes. IMO. Mertz can't make the throws that Lagway can make. His decision making is slower, his release is slower, his arm weaker and most of all his accuracy is not nearly as good. He can make the throws in the sense that he can get the ball there under optimal conditions but it isn't going to be consistent. Lagway snaps his arm and the ball is 50 yards down the field. Mertz needs space for his big windup. It appears to me that Lagway is able to quickly make the decision to take the shot and he has more experience in getting the ball there on time and accurately. So if we aren't calling those plays it isn't because he can make them and we choose not to. It's because we don't trust that play. This is not to disrespect Mertz. I really like the kid. He's been nothing but a great player and representative of the University and the Gators. Very well spoken. He just isn't Lagway.
I actually think Mertz' decision-making is pretty good, as evidenced by his low interception rate last year. I throw out the Miami game because his bell was being rung mightily in that game thanks to our OL. He has been a good leader to his teammates. But, Lagway is absolutely the (near) future. Like you said, his quick-release, his cannon-arm, his scrambling strength, and his explosive play potential are big weapons. In a way, I feel bad for Mertz because he came in and did a good job for us when we had no one else. But, Napier's hand will be forced to begin the transition way early. If DJ does not become the starter early this year, Napier will have missed his opportunity to try to right the ship. A win against Miami would have given Napier more games to develop Lagway fully, but, that didn't happen. It's all hands on deck now.
Would have given BN more time to develop Lagway? Serious question: what UF player, at any position, has improved while BN has been his HC? My observation: nobody.

That should make things more calm around here! [/QUOTE] This is the one I have a lot of trouble wrapping my brain around. I imagine he hates us given his rocky relationship with the ex (and her dad I think) and the way our fans have always thrown shade on him.
Exactly!! Please folks Kiffin ain’t coming here! Last I checked there isn’t an opening at UF . Support your coach here
It has been rumored for years that Kiffen has wanted the Florida job. Kiffen grew up a big Spurrier fan. Kiffen's ex wife is the daughter of former Gator QB John Reeves. It looks like his kids are Gator fans
One of the first things he did during his quick layover at UT was lie about Florida being NCAA cheats. Dream job indeed
