Parts of Philly can be pedestrian, but Rittenhouse Square is one of my favorite areas of any big city. Food is fantastic, nice art scene, great range of dive bars and high end. Shopping isnt quite Chicago/NYC good but solid.
I saw something about Kamala wanting a lift installed behind her podium. Apparently, the Trump-Biden rules are in place and ABC wouldn't budge on them, nor would the Trump campaign, so she didn't get the lift. Joe Biden being 6'0" (the actual Joe, not his body double), almost equal to Trump at 6'3". It's understandable why the two campaigns had agreed to no lift. However, Kamala is 5'4". Well-played by Trump...
So, Kam wanted to mislead Americans watching the debate as to her actual height? I guess she wanted to “identify” as an above average height woman ….. that is assuming Kam really is and/or identifies as a woman, today.
If she thinks that her being short is going to affect her perceived performance then she has already lost. Give good answers and come off as presidential and you won't have any problems.
If the leaks are true, she's very intimidated by the idea of debating Trump. Which honestly surprises me, but then again, it doesn't. But yes, there was this thing about the lift and of course we heard about the microphone dispute. Apparently, Kamala's campaign spent a lot of time working on things in practice sessions with her to get Trump to interrupt her, which is really odd considering the pre-existing rules in place.
If she was that concerned she could always wear elevator shoes to give her another 6" or so. Like those ones from the '70s.
Not sure about other areas areas/sectors, but I think the conventional wisdom has been that height matters in politics. That's part of why some pols reportedly wear boots/shoes to make them look taller. Even assuming that's a real thing, perhaps the height issue could matter less to voters with respect to women politicians - though voters might subjectively view men as "stronger" than women for reasons that don't depend upon physical characteristics.
Women's height has never mattered for anything other than sports. No one knows how tall Nancy Pelosi is because no one cares. Men care. Ron Desantis cares. Women do not.
This is probably true, but I kinda want to see Kamala wear insanely high heels to appear to be taller than Trump. But this kinda shows women can wear what are essentially lifts and no one cares, because that is normal fashion for women.
You're probably right that no one cares how tall or short women politicians are. That doesn't necessarily mean that women voters are unaffected by the relative height of male politicians, but even assuming taller male candidates have an advantage compared to shorter candidates, it could be men driving that preference.
Speaking of pols that wear boots/shoes to make them look taller, these guys come to mind. Marco Rubio's 'high-heeled booties' mocked by Republican rivals 3 expert shoemakers say Ron DeSantis is probably wearing height boosters
