They are the MINIMUM standard or the ideal? Coaches like that are few and far between, and we should know that better than anyone.

I think he should show them the 897,465 threads you started over the summer. That should buy him some time.

The OL was a lot better when AR was QB. It has everything to do with defending the threat of a running or mobile QB. Lagway is the answer to better line play. I guarantee it.

And when those coaches fell below that standard, they lost their jobs.

I would even add Auburn, Tennessee and Oklahoma to that list.

The $7.4 million question (per year) is why do we still employ a coach whose shown
NO PLAYER DISCIPLINE, NO PROGRESS AND NO HOPE OF SUSTAINED SUCCESS?

Line Lagway up 15 yards back and deep snap back to him.

The defensive linemen will have to rush 15 yards to be able to pressure him.

However, during that time, our receivers will have time to get open and, with his arm, he should be able to complete passes.

By the 4th quarter, their linemen should be gassed and the running game should work well.

Which is why I said "every year." Would Florida prefer a Ron Zook clone now? He competed for titles and had schedules as tough as this year's. Or a Muschamp, McElwain or Mullen clone again?

No. As much as Gator Nation don't want to admit it, the minimum standard is Spurrier and Meyer up through 2009. Anything less can be grounds for dismissal...

TAMU, MSST, UCF, TN, UK, GA, LSU, OLE MS, UT, & FSU are the games left to play. Due to the weakness of the defense, I don't see W's vs TN, GA, LSU, OLE MISS, or UT. Stumble against any of the other opponents and the Gators do not win five more games. Even if the Gators win 5 of the next ten games, I don't see a better football team in 2025. Do we not still have a weak OL and DL?Whoever the hbc is in 2025, they will still have to hit the tp hard for OL, as I see it. And we have to not lose key players to the TP; and I doubt we will if we hire a hbc with a winning resume.

I am of the opinion now that one coach was simply capable and the other was incapable. Supposedly, BN had a better talented team, and still he couldn't compete. The first game revealed this is as good as it gets for BN, and I do not think that is anywhere close to acceptable with GN!

Championships...we are soooo far from this discussion why have it...we may as well insert lower tiered bowl game in your statement and it is more descriptive of the BN era.

I mentioned Meyer for the hiring committee (as an ex gator soon to be hall of fame coach). If you had Meyer and SOS on the committee, i would feel a hell of a lot better about the new coach (if we needed one) going forward. Who has hired more quality coaches than Urban and SOS throughout their career. They would be light years better than Stricklin in judgement for success.

    Hello Doc,

I think Napier's ship sinks going any less than 5 - 2 headed into UGA. UF (Napier) has to win some darn games. The way I see it, Napier is in HUGE trouble if he loses to tamu, on the road to MS State, or UCF. Frankly a loss to any of these teams torpedoes his hopes to continue as coach. Still early but, UT looks really good, I think that could be considered a "forgivable loss" by the decison makers as long as UF plays respectably. But then Napier has to win one (probably two more), the most likely candidates being LSU and FSU. I don't know, maybe if he goes 6 - 6 and wins a bowl (maybe) he survives.

I may differ with you about 2025, DJL, the recievers and the running back room look to be solid heading into 25, and maybe, just maybe the O and D lines
improve. He better have a top 10 class as well. All of that is speculative on my part.

We can spin these scenerios all we want, but another ass whippin at home or laying a KY egg (23 style) on the road is not going to fly with this fan base.

Personally I think the odds are really stacked against coach, the Gator Nation "good will" bank is on the verge of filing foreclosure papers.

I stated this before Samford and, after Samford, believe it even more, Napier has one shot, DJL, the young man just might be the spark necessary to get this team going and save coachs job. It's a big ask, DJL dosen't play defense, and as stated by others, as a read option QB he CAN help the offensive line, but that only goes so far.

Napiers story may very well be over at 7:00 PM after tamu, we shall see.

Win games is the answer. Field a competitive team. Be a HC, not a person that sounds confused. Hire the best assistants. That's how he could have saved his job. What might save him another year, even if we have a third losing season, is that the administration may not be prepared to hire- may not be able to locate the right replacement.

Needless to say, I hated to drop the Miami game out of the gate, but it is possible they go farther than anticipated. I think someone asked "Is Miami that good or are we that bad?", and at this point you cannot objectively answer that. There was a crap ton of hype about Cam Ward. Now we have a sampling to know why - sadly reminded me of playing Teddy Bridgewater in the 2013 Sugar Bowl....dude just made plays. Mertz also had a poor game for whatever reason but maybe knowing your line isn't up to par fascilitates an "oh crap" mentality.

So I think for CBN's grading, win the games you are supposed to win and be competitve either way. What are those games? Great question and dunno at this point. According to the 'experts' we have the toughest schedule this year, and despite wishful thinking, I think we were only slated to win 4-5 by Vegas. Sorry to say that is where my mindset is at this point, so 6-6 and a making a bowl game would be a damn good season. If he doesn't get there, should he be fired? Can't say either way right now. I saw a lot of good out of the Samford game, especially from Lagway. The offense just looked different and honestly I caught myself thinking of the Franks/Trask scenario. Anyway, unlike the 4-5 days of 'fans' brandishing thier finely sharpened pitchforks after the Miami loss, I'm just not there......yet. Time will tell.
