Thankfully most Americans, including most Floridians don't want the government deciding if an abortion should be illegal.

Lol, what? Something isn't democracy if it requires 60% of the vote?

Tens of thousands of pregnancies have resulted from rape in states where abortion is not a legal option, researchers estimate in a new study.

In the study, published Wednesday in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, researchers from Planned Parenthood, Resound Research for Reproductive Health and academic institutions across the US used a combination of federal surveys on crime and sexual violence to estimate that there were about 520,000 rapes that led to 64,565 pregnancies in the time since abortion bans have been enacted in 14 states – ranging by state from four to 18 months ago.

Other research has found that there have been fewer than 10 abortions each month in states with bans, suggesting that most, if not all, victims were not able to get abortions in the states where they live, even those where the law allows exceptions for rape.

“Restricting abortion access to survivors of rape can have particularly devastating consequences,” the medical journal’s editors wrote in a note about the new research. “Whether these survivors of rape had illegal abortions, received medication abortion through the mail, traveled to other states, or carried the child to birth is unknown.”

So this is ok with conservatives? Government representatives knocking on doors double checking legally validated signatures?

Why do I vote for Democrats who do really stupid stuff like insist that gender is optional and blather on about nonsense like “greedflation” ? It is because shit like this.

I’d take the crack head over the literal snowflake with a napoleon complex who is actively destroying education in the state and wastes tax payer money on nonsensical culture wars and dumbass “free state of Florida” signs to stroke his ego. Florida is the only state that thinks Desantis is competent, which is why the rest of the USA loudly rejected him and his joke of a presidential campaign which I told everyone on here he had no chance of doing anything in from the beginning. Guy has the charisma of a shoe.

This is very authoritarian and is at the heart of why his efforts are so offensive. Free State of Florida my ass.

Who wants a totalitarian wannabe for governor? DeSantis is using tactics that are not in line with what Floridians have worked for decades to eradicate. Voter intimidation and strong-arming elected officials? Really?

It's truly a shame our state constitution has no recall measure in place. Perhaps that needs to be an amendment on a future ballot.

Republicans have a funny definition of the word “free” when everything they do actively tries to undermine actual freedom.

The state is the one that set the 60% threshold in the first place (and it's one of the highest in the nation anyways). You act like citizens set it so they can pass whatever amendment they want. Are you that dense?

Going by your logic, if passed by 60% of voters, you should be perfectly fine with calling it a democratic process because the Florida Constitution says that's how it works.

But instead, you're pissy that a legally democratic voter-initiated amendment could possibly pass just because you don't like it.

Don't be mad the majority think you're wrong.

They're also illegally using taxpayer money to campaign against Amendment Four. What a repugnant group of thugs.

We would have saved a lot of embarrassment and money in legal fees defending unconstitutional legislation. I understand you might feel a significant loss due to the lack of white boots, however.

"The reason it takes a 60% or higher yes vote to pass is it's not democratic." Literally the most absurd post of this election cycle.

Trump is on record as saying Florida's 6 week ban is too short. On your home planet that makes Trump a murderer or at least in favor of longer time periods to legally murder babies?
