My oldest does campus tours at her university in Florida and I will tell you now, it’s a problem when prospective students ask about campus life. Just because you don’t care, doesn’t change the opinions of the thousands of students who do. Those clubs met in rooms and were given office space to exist, so no. Virtual clubs don’t cut it and they can’t just rent offices.
Education in the US is liberal controlled, there would be little argument from either side on that statement. Cutting the DEI programs is a death blow for school rankings because of the status quo. Most people not involved in education don’t really care about those rankings. If we’re highly ranked it’s a nice bragging point nothing more. Three of my four children were accepted to UF, only one chose to go and graduate there. They went with the school that seemed to meet their needs the best.
The worst public university in California is ranked about 60 spots ahead of the University of Chicago. This isn’t a ‘best’ ranking it’s … something else. It’s like a ‘ranking’ of the best movies of all time, where the Godfather went from #1 to #175 and was replaced by Goonies.
This thread was already on Too Hot, but i don’t even think this has anything to do with any agenda. Aside from the obvious fact the WSJ is a conservative media org controlled by Rupert Murdoch, the same rankings had UF #1 last year! What was the agenda then? The fact there would be so much movement year to year AND so many odd positionings and relatively unknown schools ahead of “elite” schools just means these rankings were completely wack both times.
It really is a reflection of an incompetent governor who could not even win his own state in a primary. All Florida Universities dropped which is on the elected officials in Tallahassee. Florida as a state will continue to plummett in relevance as long as the voters continue to demonstrate to the rest of the country that they are incapable of electing someone who has an ounce of governing skill.
We had a president who was more worried with channeling UF money to his buddies than doing actual stuff for the university but sure, let’s go with conspiracy theories.
Leave it to today’s society to prefer to devalue their own degree just to prevent someone different than them from having a club or studying a topic with which they carry a bias against. F#%€ amazing!
WSJ, conservative? Get out of the 90's, dude. Also, Murdoch's a left leaning libertarian who cashed in on void left by the MSM after they joined forces with the Democrat party. You realize that his far-left sons have been running FoxNews for years, right. Just following the money, like dad.
