You know, at first I thought this was just crazy talk, but there is a bit of smoke out there. Urbs is wired differently. I don’t think he can be happy just being another retired coach talking head. I think the fact that DJ Lagway is here along with some high level talent at skill positions has peaked his interest. It would not surprise me that some high level back channel communications are taking place. @ETGator posted that something unexpected has happened but said he can’t comment further. I’m not saying it will happen but it would not surprise me if the wheels are in motion.
Who knows? If Meyer does take another head coaching job, his track record is hiring an excellent staff. I remember reading in his book back in the day that for years he used to keep a running list of coaches who had impressed him somehow that he wanted to work with one day, and when the UF job came up, the guys he hired were from that list. I think he didn't do a great job here of replacing the coordinators who were hired away to be head coaches, but it's hard to argue against the list of coordinators, OCs and DCs, he's had over his tenure. He promoted Mullen and Adazzio from within, but I don't think had ever worked with Herman or Day before.
I bring it up because those are the coaches that will keep the current players on the team out of the portal not so much Meyer. The problem is the coaches he wants won't be hired until after the portal opens at the end of the season.
I think after Napier starts Metrz this week and we get schlacked by 3 TDs this rumor will heat up again.
Ok, I get it. So if the selling point was Urban taking a job "early," you're right that he'd be selling himself, not selling a staff or playcaller that probably wouldn't be assembled until the postseason. But that may still be a pretty compelling sell, especially with his track record of hiring very successful OCs.
No shit sherlock. If you can come up with a way for a coach to leave a team other than quit or be fired, please elaborate. That's true. And I've always wondered why Aubrin shit-canned him. I guess 9-10 win seasons weren't enough if one of those wins isn't bama.
FTR It was emergency appendectomy the night before the auburn 2007 game. And TT was almost killed in 2009 at UK trying to throw from the pocket. The rest is spot on.
Miss. state was a big problem for Tebow, 2009. Addazio was the de facto OC. Offense struggled, but we won. Pretty sure as I recalled with my aching brain. The aftermath of the game showed to me a large number of players getting onto Tim during..and after the game. Kentucky in 2007..agreed. Thanks.
31..yeah, he got knocked into the foot of our right tackle I believe. Brantley came in for him. Good post.
Too many programmed people here do NOT remember what happened way back when to even care to get that right. They believe the false narrative, collusion.
If the NFL wanted Mullen they would have hired him by now. He'll stay on TV for a few years then take a MAC job.
