I’m taking ET’s comment to mean something that we don’t know.

That's too bad because he is directly responsible for over-paying and hiring this abysmal coaching staff that nobody else was pursuing.

Well, if it’s something that could result a firing for cause (i.e. misconduct), then that would be interesting indeed.

Why? Wait until game day, creates a bit more prep issues for the aggies.

If I was coach I would give Mertz the start and see what he can do, if he struggles more than two offensive series (3 at the very most) pull him for DJL.

I am of the opinion the only way to calm down Gator Nation is to do exactly this. The Vol's look like a tough ask at their place. But going 5 - 2 is what Napier needs to do before UGA. Then hopefully upset one of the bigger teams and then grab a dub at FSU. That is if he wants to stick around. He HAS to play DJL I think. Maybe not start him against tamu but yank Mertz at the first sign of trouble or ineffectivness. I think DJL will probably begin starting in the next few games.

Not really tbh. One game can’t count and the other not. That’s just how it works.

Hoping both QB’s are healthy. I’m afraid even aflac wouldn’t insure them.

I'm good with not throwing Lagway into the fire. I'm hoping with QB, OL and all position groups we start seeing some accountability and best player plays. If he starts Mertz,(which he should) and Mertz plays lights out, i'm good with him continuing.
DJL should have a path to take over the job.. If Mertz is ineffective, he must put DJL in. If Mertz is ineffective going forward, I would be good with DJL starting game 3 or 4.

I don't have a clue as to how the team is going perform against A&M. I wouldn't be shocked if we played vastly better than game 1. I also wouldn't be shocked if we played like garbage. I know a post like this doesn't add much value to the thread, except if others are feeling similar but don't want to admit it.

I think you express how the majority of Gator Nation feels. UF lost 6 straight to good teams. (Yes I think Miami is good, perhaps very good). We beat up on little Samford, but that was expected, anything less would have been a disaster. Now what? I posted immediately after the Miami debacle that I expected tamu to tell the tale and in all probability may seal Napiers fate, at least in terms of sticking around, losing two consecutive games at home against quality competition, and the SEC opener to boot will ratchet up the noise to deafening levels.

Whether its Mertz or Lagway, we saw against Samford what we should be trying to emulate against everyone. Speed on the outside and mixing in vertical route when we have 1-1s. If you go back and watch the Miami film, we won some of the 1-1s on the vertical/post routes, but Mertz missed them badly. Whether it was Samford or not, Lagway looked good throwing the deep ball.

As much as I want to see Mertz succeed, I dont think starting Lagway will necessarily make the team any worse. He adds the running ability, and appears to have a better deep ball, which has been missing in this offense.

I'm sorry for having to be so cryptic. It's actually a combination of things but the scUM game itself was very impactful . . . and not in a good way. Maybe call it shocking. Eye-opening. Then something else seriously added to that and both together changed the minds of some highly influential people and thus the temperature of the room. Nothing about "firing for cause" at all that I am aware of. Just now a lot of discussions about different things are happening very privately. My advice is: express your thoughts without bashing or insulting but just let things play out. Heads are not in the sand.
