Article: DJ Lagway’s Electrifying First Collegiate Start Leads Florida Past Samford

If we can keep him, he can be our GOAT.

 

I remember being at a Clemson game when I was in high school in which Woody Dantzler was struggling. A guy named Willie Simmons had just thrown four second half TD's the week before in a comeback W over UNC(Julius Peppers UNC). The crowd(myself included) began chanting, "We want Willie." and we got him. That game didn't go so well and now no one even knows who Willie Simmons is. The point being, DJ is a far superior talent to Willie Simmons and we SHOULD chant for him to be in the game. Forget everything else I wrote above that line. DJ LAGWAY, DJ LAGWAY!

 

27 yards from breaking the all time single game record. If they left him in the game he’d have broken it. As a freshman. Starting his first game. Incredible.

 

Mertz is the safe bet to have a chance at a 4-5 win season. DJ will have growing pains. But he’s the only chance at 6-8 wins.

 

We need a good (I didn't say great) OC for that to happen.

 

This is an indirect ask for BN to not call any plays? Agreed.

 

Very few true freshman can be impressive and it was only Samford but damn, got give him a shot.

 

I think DJ is our chance at 6.

 

That’s a stretch. We’ve had some really good ones. He could though.

 

Definitely not saying it’s guaranteed. I’ve never seen a true freshman do what he did. He has the potential for sure.

 

I can't wait to see the film breakdown on Lagway's performance. Im sure there is room for improvement but the guy just has so much talent he will overcome many of his freshman mistakes. That arm is just a total cannon and the release is instant.

 

The only thing I saw he missed watching live was a crossing pattern that ended on the left sideline which I think resulted in his first incomplete pass. A few yards earlier it was an easy completion but DJ was a little behind on his read. Damn, in his first game, that’s all I saw. I’m sure there’s plenty in a breakdown but for a first game, that was amazing. He made some really nice throws and spread it around to everyone on the field.

 

What I like most about Lagway is….. everything. He is going to be a difference maker, especially after he gets the benefit of experience. He is going to face some pretty stiff defenses this season.

 

I hope not. Would be embarrassing to DJ and Mertz. Not to mention put a lot of unnecessary pressure on DJ.
If by the third qtr we still haven’t seen Lagway I might have a different take on that, but I would hate to see Mertz demoralized. He’s been a trooper.

 

Lagway could have been just lucky with that 1st TD pass but he kept on plopping the ball into open receivers arms. Talent was a huge deal in that game.

 

Langway is a future Heismen winner. If we approve the OL he can set Fla records.
