Was he even getting processed out? It sounded like they’d offered him a pretty considerable amount of help. He chose to completely ignore his obligations. Skipped practices, meetings, one on ones with the coach, etc. Then when he finally decides to come in and talk, he did so with blatant intentions to setup the coach, not find a resolution.

Mental health is a real issue. If the kid needs help, the university should provide with an avenue to seek it. That said, this kid has no business being on a football team. It's a team sport. Get him off the team and let someone who can handle the stress of being a team player take his place.
