I wish we saw some emotion from Billy. Been saying it for 3 years. Example for an opportunity- Lagway takes a shot to the head area that looked like targeting. I know he got up woozy. Maybe Billy saw it and knew it wasn’t. But, if it was what it looked like, disappointed Billy didn’t let refs know of his displeasure.
I didn't lock it and usually don't undo what another mod decides. If you have something new, maybe start a thread or find one that's already going.
Okay... football is not a social group therapy session where labeling is a bad thing... Every player and coach has a job, and a label...
I can't wait for the eruption here when he plays Mertz all 4 quarters and doesn't bring Lagway into the game once as the offense racks up 10 measly points next week. The really scary part of my post is many of us can read this and feel like it is like a 50/50 chance of being correct.
I didn't have the stomach to watch the presser but Im just curious how did the water bottle opening go?
You gotta protect your players. Red Auerbach got thrown out of an AllStar game for arguing with the refs (not saying he should go that far..) why? “I was protecting my players!” said Red
Just rewatched some of lagways throws. This dude is something special. I truly hope we find a way to keep him in Orange and blue no matter who is coaching next year.
He believes this. He and his staff put together a game plan. It included rotating OL on specific series, I suppose for creating depth for a long year of opponents and for team building. We will see the same thing next week. It won't matter that we have a better chance at winning our next game with Pup and James playing every snap. It won't matter that we have a better chance at winning with keeping the best 5 on the OL playing the whole game. It won't matter that we have only 2 cb that will be able to play a lick, as we will see the same failed play from those who do it every week. That is his process.
I could be very wrong, but I think that ship has sailed. The time to have that mentality was during this offseason, building a professional antipathy for Miami into every meeting, workout session, and practice. Napier clearly didn’t do that. You can’t just get that time back. Why it never occurred to him that showing up strong in the opener was terribly important for his professional reputation after the poor showing he had against Utah last season just boggles the mind. Maybe this guy really thinks that buyout protects him. Or maybe he just wants the buyout more than he wants people to think he can coach football. No idea.
I can see rotating some guys through and getting some feet wet. I can also see using that film to change the starting lineup. I can also see after watching Lagway that Mertz may limit the play calling. The question is, does Napier see all this and use it to create a better lineup, rotation and gameplan.
This is just more 'look how evolved and smart we are, we have no need for play callers, the process is ALL'
I’m going with , he thought his gameplan was going to work. He doesn’t realize the guys on the other sidelines are always three steps ahead of him.
I can see giving Mertz the start but two possessions with no points should bring in Lagway for the next series. If he scores or does considerably better, he gets the next series. Give Lagway the chance to take the job permanently while also give Mertz the chance to keep his job.
I give Lagway credit for his performance. But let us all get real. The opponent yesterday was Samford. Smaford is a long long long away as being a Miami, UGA, Bama, and so forth. Lagway needs to get in everygame for multiple plays. 1, To get the experience against real college football teams. 2, To be the number one QB in 2025. 3, To take over went needed (even next week).
