Trask was about to lose his job until the USCe game in 2018, then he showed out and kept the job, until he got hurt vs UK. I know there were many who wanted Trask over Franks for obvious reasons(stupid throws).
Sometimes guys show out in games better than practice and that’s what makes them the leader.

SOS went back a forth with QBs all the time, hell DW wasn’t the locked in QB1 for quite a while.

Well his injury was season ending and then Trask blew up just about every game after.
Just a bit different situation than the one we are talking about now.

Football history is chock full of QBs who lost their job due to injury. You didn't even need to look farther than the gators.

That's a nice quote and all but it isn't true and it shouldn't be

Bill, I hear you, but this is a different day. It’s a business and Billy is walking a tightrope without a net. My eyes tell me that Lagway is better and gives us a chance to win next week and beyond. I hope Billy’s not so stubborn that he puts his 5* QB on the bench. I appreciate what Graham did, but it’s dog eat dog. A&M won’t care one bit that Mertz was injured and “deserves” his job back. They will come after whichever guy is back there like a bunch of wild men. Lagway needs to start. Period. He may struggle, but his ceiling is much higher than Mertz.

Anyways….Badger, I LOOOVED what I saw from him.

McCray is HUGGGGE for a true freshmen

Aaron Gates had a solid game at STAR. Always seems to be around the ball

I’m still nervous that QB with legs will be HELL for us this season as our DE’s, when we do get pressure, overshoot and lose containment.

Pup and Shemar….them the LB’s and even Jaden Robinson looked solid when he got in. Moten looked ok in limited snaps

I know he a Gator legacy, but Baugh has that “it” (fumble be damned) that Webb doesn’t have.

Dike reminds me of a David Nelson/OJ Small type and you def need those type of WR’s

Hansen is soooo underrated as a pass catcher

Trell still doesn’t seem healthy imo

Dijon should start opposite of Marshall imo. Ja’Keem seems to not be ready

George Gumbs is a UNIT. That mofo is a future NFL player.

Samford shot themselves in the foot or that game coulda been closer

DJ had a hell of a game but he locked onto a lot of receivers so that is one downside to him. His throws though were dirty, placement was just in spots the D could not get to and the only person who could potentially get the ball is the receiver.

Napier will probably mix in both and go with the hot hand. I would go with Lagway at the start guy allows more dimensions and gotta scheme for a mobile QB which frees up the receivers somewhat.

I am not hating on Mertz, but he isn’t very good passing downfield and has no running ability. Combine that with a sketchy offensive line, and you will get a pretty marginal offense.

Maybe if Mertz was having a pretty stellar game against Miami, you start him over Lagway next week, but Mertz was awwwfullll before the injury. The correct move is to let Lagway start and if he struggles against A&M, then you reevaluate. If Lagway does decently, you keep starting Lagway. He doesn't have to set the world on fire to keep his starting job, because he has lightyears more talent than Mertz.
