It may take a little longer for kiff to turn it around but I’m for giving it a shot if it comes to that.

Interesting for the Urban enjoyers that the ND and UF jobs might both end up open at the same time.

Now there's a monkey wrench thrown into things. Urban loves him some college football tradition and notre dame in particular. Could satisfy a huge ego itch to win a natty at 3 powerhouse programs. ( at least powerhouses at one time.)

Like the Indianapolis Colts did years ago when they had “Suck for Luck” to get the number one draft choice, should the Gators be “Whiffin’ for Kiffin?” :p

I think it’s a fallacy to believe universities actually say, “Oh, well, the buyout is too big. I guess we’ll put up with two more years of this.” Observe aTm. This time last year, Fisher was “unfirable” due to his buyout. Little schools suffer what they must. Big schools do what they can. If LSU decides that Kelly isn’t working out (and they might), they will pay his buyout or find a way out of it. But Kelly won’t get to stay just because he has a large buyout.

Every situation is different. I don't think it's a fallacy at LSU right now. Year #2 after a pretty good debut season. Way too premature to talk about LSU eating a $60 million buyout of Brian Kelly. OTOH, it is not too premature - at all - to talk about UF eating the $26 million Billy Napier would be owed.

John Gruden has been sighted at a Bull Gator’s house in Sarasota. Heard this from a friend who is a *well connected* insider.

The time to have picked up Kiffin was when we were “too good for him”.

Funny thing is, his personality suited us.

I have to disagree on this one. Ole Miss is already paying Kiffin more than we are paying Napier, and they've got some boosters with the cash to pay him more if that will keep him. Ole Miss alums are super cohesive in their desire to have a winning football program, so I doubt they get out bid.

If Kiffin leaves, it will be because he thinks he can win the SEC and a natty wherever he goes. On the other hand, he got unceremoniously tarmacked at USC where he thought he could do the same, so that may give him pause. People here seem to have forgotten his disastrous stint at USC, a school that has the resources to win it all.

While Ole Miss fans want to win, they are realistic about their chances of winning it all, and Kiffin will be quite secure in his job at $10 million plus a year as long as he keeps doing what he is already doing.

If I were him, I would stay in Oxford and avoid the stress of unrealistic fans and another potential firing, all the while making serious bank.

Disagree up and down. UF can win a bidding war against Ole Miss if it wants to. At some point, Kiffin's desires are going to have an effect. He could, in theory, take slightly less from UF because of our tradition and access to recruits in the state. That is not a small point. Ole Miss's roster talent is currently graded at #20 in the nation. Don't kid yourself in thinking that will translate to playoff berths every season. That's on the lower end for SEC schools. Kiffin understands this better than anyone.

USC is virtually irrelevant at this point. Kiffin is still youngish and that happened when he was very young for a HBC. He has had a long time to grow as a coach and mature. Being mentored by Saban is not a small thing. Humbling himself and taking the FAU job was a great move and he did well there. He wasn't ready for USC then. He is much better groomed today. His work at Ole Miss proves he is a damn good coach.

And oh yeah, Kiffin wouldn't have to deal with those "unrealistic fans" who expect bowl games, some wins over rivals here and there and to be competitive in the SEC. Very unreasonable fans for a school that has won 3 natties in the past 20 years.
