You act as if all influence is done consciously. From a marketing standpoint, that is absolutely not true. Nobody ever claims to buy car insurance from the official car insurance provider of their favorite sports team because of that sponsorship. I've literally asked hundreds of people a question like that before and think I have ever only seen one hand. And yet, if you look at the data, it is causing shifts in purchasing behavior to sponsor a team like that.
