Ok so there have been a few in the vast length of college football. Noted! End of the day, majority of that small list are not big time programs. And none of them are SOS or Urban Meyer. It’s gonna be hard enough to bring a coach that’s proven to come into our current dumpster fire of a program, let alone bring someone who has retired. Sometimes the money isn’t worth the stress. On top of allll that, I thank Meyer for his contribution to our NC collection, but I also remember we are in this situation to begin with because of his own coaching blunders. That would be the definition of rinse, wash, repeat.
Urban left a decade and a half ago...good god...I dont think we can continue to blame him for the disaster we have today. We've had more than enough time to correct whatever deficit there was when he left.
This may not be a popular opinion here, but Kiffin is a genius for scheduling four cream puffs to start the season. This SEC schedule is so brutal. There is nothing to be gained by scheduling multiple Top 25 teams in the out of conference other than fan base appeasement and lots of wear and tear on your boys as they head into conference play. The SEC has always been strong, but it was never this strong and deep back in the day when our rivalries had their hey day. Adapt to the current conditions. Kiffin not afraid to do that. Very wise.
Schedules are usually established years in advance and by the ADs and SEC office. Not sure Kiffin had any influence on things probably established before he took the job. A lot of what SS did was in reaction to the playoff changes and emphasis on strength of schedule going forward. Unfortunately the SEC office didn’t help and BN turned out to be……well BN. Can’t predict how crappy your coach will turn out.
My wife saw almost the exact same thing on Facebook yesterday as fact from a connected judge. Substitute Stoops for Freeze and it is exactly the same. Judge said Myer would be willing to do this. This is going to be a long silly season I guess.
I don't know what Kiffin is getting at Ole Miss, but why would we, a much better school and state for talent than Ole Miss, have to pay $12 to $15 million for Kiffin? Where does that number come from? Why do the Gators have to pay more than Ole Miss? Plus, only half of what Npier is owed would have to be paid up front, so that around $14 million, and $4 million for Kiffin... equals $18 million... And I doubt the assistant coaches have an onerous buyout.
Kiffen's making $10 million a year. Ole Miss seems to be okay. Are we going to pay $12ish plus a ridiculous buyout? Hate losing but not so much a fan of Kiffen that it seems like a good move. Also, not sure he would come. Why should he?
Would our admin be willing to make Kiffen the highest paid coach? Seems like the money required to make it worth leaving Ole Miss would be that. Not sure it's the right move. That said, I also don't trust our administration to handle the next hire well anyway.
