That’s the issue. Everyone wants Kiffin, but Ole Miss is looking at a potential playoff run. That means mid to late January would be the hiring timeframe. That’s no bueno for retaining current players and keeping the recruiting class together. Urban would be good as he’s available now, but I just don’t see how logistically it would work. SS and CBN are tied as if one goes, I would think the other would go shortly after. Without a new president, I don’t see keeping SS around to let CBN go, then replacing SS once a new president is hired. Fuchs already said he would like the new president to make these decisions. I guess we will see how it plays out soon enough if his hands were forced.
You can actually track our downfall with each coach: Meyer - Top of the SEC Muschamp - about 3rd or 4th but still able to beat UGA. Mackelshark - Lower middle of the SEC (8-9). Still better than KY. Mullen - Inexplicable rise back to 3rd or 4th but not sustainable. Napier - Bottom portion of the SEC, on par with S Carolina, Vandy and Miss. St.
I would be overjoyed having a 60th ranked offense, a 1st ranked defense, and going 15-0 winning every game 17-3. For me, winning is fun.
B. Alvarez at wisky also did it. Its because they dont want to be measured against past accomplishments. I only know of coach Spurrier wanting to do that (he would have excelled and brought stability something we have been fruitlessly chasing but people would not have been happy with the style of play) and bill synder at K state.
You sir are in the minority around here unfortunately. With the new structure it is about survive and advance no need to #1or2 in the sec any longer your model would work very well. The hand wringing would be epic on a weekly basis.
I prefer that too… but frankly that’s harder to find than a coach who will “make Florida Football fun again.” Lane Kiffin hasn’t won any titles at Ole Miss, but I wouldn’t mind if he gives us exactly what he’s given Ole Miss.
So, I was gone to lunch for a couple of hours... checking back to see if Urban had been brought back yet? Any news?
Hey if you have an extra hundred million dollars lying around like that Ive got this great mother in law Id like you to meet.
Kiff doesn’t even have a signature win much less a birth in the SEC championship or anything. He’s got some style points.
That could be a factor of just being Mississippi. Sometimes a school can't succeed no matter who the coach is just because of where they are. Very difficult for schools that haven't been to the mountain top to get there out of the blue and maintain. Ole piss did pretty well with Freeze, it will be interesting to see what he does with Aubrin.
If option two actually happens and our guy Billy continues to put the same product on the field, you won’t even be able to get an “up and comer”.
Norm Sloan says hello! (Well, not really since he has been dead for a while now and it is the wrong sport)
He also (Petrino) was the head coach twice ( non consecutive) of Louisville… 2003-2006 and 2014-2018. It’s rare but it has happened, someone has already mentioned Barry Alvarez at Wisconsin but the list also includes; 1. Mack Brown N.C. 1988-1997 and 2019-present 2. Bobby Petrino Louisville 2003-2006 and 2014-2018 3.Greg Schiano Rutgers 2001-2011 and 2020-present 4. Bill Snyder Kansas State 1989-2005 and 2009-2018 5. Randy Edsall UConn 1999-2010 and 2017-2021. There are others, mostly coaches who no body has heard or old timers, but some other fairly well known names. I agree in that I highly doubt Urban coaches again at UF, I just disagree with the impossible portion of your statement, especially in the current environment. The impossible seems to be more and more possible these days.
