Someone has to pay their salaries for next year if they are retained. UAA dollars are going to dry up until a move is made.
Some sportswriters are saying Billy has to go, but they're admitting it may take time, due to Fuchs being interim and he originally hired SS.
Can Nesty, Holloway, Sully, Rowland, Wise or Walton coach football? None of those great coaches were hired by the current AD.
This needs to be the first shoe to drop. CBN was a hot name in coaching when hired. I don’t fault the AD for hiring him. But the contract. Geez.
I posted in a different thread Tennessee hired Heupel 9 months before we hired Napier and he got $4M per season. There is no galaxy in which Napier should have gotten more than $5M.
He shouldn't be allowed to hire the next coach because of the contract he gave more so than the guy he picked, and it's not even close.
Had not seen this article linked yet, but it is about Stricklin far more than it is about Napier. Heat is On Florida Gators Head Coach Billy Napier, but He's not Alone (si.com)
After I read that, I'm sure that ChatGPT could do much better, so I assume Terrance Biggs is an actual person.
I’m no fan of SS but the article is quite slanted…it asks why he fired coach Mac- says he won two SEC titles and clashed with him personally so fired him. Like that was the reason. It neglects to mention the Mac fake death threats that 99% of the fan base, boosters, and media wanting him fired. Way to omit the facts to bolster a take.
For me the answer is yes. I’m a 50-something year old grad from the early 90s, and I long for the days of Marshall Criser and the mediocre Bill Arnsparger, let alone Jeremy or Dr Lombardi. Sasse was grifting like that monorail salesman from The Simpsons, and Stricklin has successfully transformed our football program into the mirror image of Mississippi State. He never should have survived the WBB coach’s scandal….but alas, WBB is UF’s red-headed stepchild so no one cared. Still, in all kinds of weather…we’ll get through this rough stretch together.
Agree that they left that out of the article. Don’t agree that his “death threats” blunder was the real reason he was fired anymore than allegedly banging prostitutes was the real reason Hugh Freeze was fired. If either of them had been winning, then neither would have been fired. In McElwain’s case, he would have faced a minor dressing down and a request that he watch what he say in front of the media. In Freeze’s case, the allegations would never have even come to light. Both scenarios presented convenient, expedient ways to get rid of underperforming coaches without paying their full buyouts. If there’s any “lesson” to be learned there, it’s that now that it’s become clear Napier is probably not the guy, we should be sparing no expense to look through his closets for any similar opportunities to not pay him an undeserved buyout.
