Just like every other school and mass shooting event, this too was horrific.

There are an estimated 400 million guns in the US. If guns are truly the problem then logic would tell you there would be many more of these school shootings. Kids in public school can be pretty hard on one another….. and we know quite a few kids suffer from mental health problems.

They are nasty tough, aggressive, and tend to run in multiples. It's not uncommon to stalk them with multiple hunters each with ARs running NODs.

Beyond that, they are excellent for varmints, coyotes, and things like that all the way up to small deer and can easily be set up to take them up to 300-400 yards.

I’m fully against this idea. Are we also going to allow the public to sue auto manufacturers whenever their vehicles get in an auto accident? No, we need to enact proper laws, not weasily end arounds.

It’s far from ideal but it in no way infringes upon an individual citizens right to own a gun. Which is a non starter with the gun nuts. What could be more American than fixing this problem with lawyers?

You’re going to have to explain this “logic” you’re certain supports your point. Over a decade the US had 7x the number of school shootings as the rest of the world combined. The US is also the only country in the world with more guns than people.

Apparently schools, churches, malls, grocery stores, and parades are overrun with feral hogs. Carry on.

I’ve see the same narrative in terms of abortion legislation. As pointed out, the senate Ds had 60 barely enough to overcome filibuster and Kennedy died during that 2 years and was replaced by a republican. People also forget but there were actually a few pro life democrats back then. They had to work to get ACA through the house and take out any government funding for abortion to appease pro life democrats.

After Kennedy died they had to use senate reconciliation to get parts of ACA done.

So yes it was likely there was at least 1 pro gun Democrat (maybe manchin?). Given the circumstance they were in they prioritized financial stimulus, financial reform and healthcare.

Tell that to Democratic Senator Bill Nelson ;)

To be clear, I said the right has been worse. But the democrats have used this as a political pawn with no action when they had the chance.

Perhaps that is all a part of it, but some democrats seem to think they failed when they had the chance.

I did, which was why I posted my response. Trust me, the issue is not with MY reading comprehension.

You're talking about a two year window 14-16 years ago in which healthcare and stimulus were prioritized. Gimme a break.

Enact national red flag laws with guard rails and consequences for those that use them inappropriately.
Mandate safety training and tiered license system. Want a more “deadly” weapon.. take more training for a high license.
Hold parents liable. Too many (almost every time) the perpetrators are known to have social issues/mental issues. Almost every time the perps are known to law enforcement and on their radar. There is no way parents are not aware of the potential danger - and if they are .. they aren’t parenting. In either case they should not have guns accessible on their child/grandchild.
Stop blaming guns and place he blame where it belongs. On the people involved.

What are the sides and how are they equal?

Every time you take the time to type a "both sides" argument, you should know that you aren't making an argument at all. The number of times you whip out this phrase is impressive:

If dad let this kid get access to his guns then he has to be held accountable. If the police questioning him a year earlier about his guns and his son didn't get his attention then he is a big part of what happened. As far as AR's being hunting guns yes many people use them to hunt, but if the father told the police that he just had some hunting guns he was not really being truthful in my opinion. Either way his guns should have been locked in a safe his son had no combo for or any way to get it.
