Urbs would only be good for a couple years. But maybe we need a placeholder to hopefully establish enough relevance to attract a long term coach.

Well, Urban, why don't you do something about it. . .

You may be right, but you don't know that, nor do I.

I don't think we are going to hire him, but I kind of think he wants to come back.

He would win here, right now, with our roster. Posters say his "red ass" approach wouldn't work now. I disagree. That's just what our players want and need.

    Guy is a winner.

The story I heard directly from John Reaves son(fwiw) is that Urban cheated on his wife with a bank teller and she found out. She told him she was going home to Ohio whether he came or not. This is when the esophageal spasms began. It was actually his heart being torn from his chest through his own doing.

I'm sure she's numb to it by now. They still had children living at home during that time. His kids are all grown and out of the house. Time to focus on football and accumulating side pieces.

The guy has great football knowledge, true emotions, intensity, urgency, and hates to lose. All things we have not seen for 3 years.

When some of our transfers like Josh Braun left some of our fans, thought it wasn’t a big loss… Watching guys like him succeeded as well as the Missouri linebacker, Etienne, Princely, Just remind me that none of this would be happening if we had a coach like Urban.

People really working themselves up to the idea of it. Reminds of the Chip K thread.

    Gonna be some major disappointment

    From his On3 interview

“Gainesville, it’s a tough, tough job,” Meyer said in an appearance on The Triple Option podcast. “It’s a great job. It’s one of the top five jobs in the country. You’ve got everything you need. You’ve got a recruiting base that’s second to none and you’ve got a great stadium, you’ve got a great fanbase, you’ve got a great student body. You’ve got it all. But I’ll tell you what, Gainesville is a tough town to live in when you’re the coach at Florida. It really is.”

“I love Gainesville, it was great. My wife really loved it,” he said. “But I just never really left the house because I just, it feels like it’s caving in on you. It’s a small town and there’s very strong opinions there. It’s a great place, but it’s a very tough place to be when you don’t end up on the right side of the win column.”

To be fair, you can hope for his return while understanding it's unlikely.

It would be much easier now, especially after the 14 years of wild inconsistency we've had since he left. We've been squarely in National Championship contention (one loss or fewer) in the month of November twice since he left (2012, 2020). His last two recruiting classes played a major role in the success of the 2012 season.

I would argue his tenure spoiled our fanbase worse than Spurrier's. Things have changed since then. Alabama became a consistent powerhouse and Georgia has since done the same. Four teams have joined the SEC. Though they've battled inconsistency like we have, Florida State became a relevant program again. NIL and transfer rules have reshaped the landscape of recruiting in college football. It's just very, very different from when Meyer left in 2010. The competition, even just within our conference, has improved dramatically from our peak Meyer years. I like to think, perhaps naively, that more realistic expectations would come with those factors.

I guess we're all pipe-dreaming in this thread but the man just turned 60. He easily has 5-7 years left in the tank, if not more. The buzz his return would come with, especially after the season we're about to suffer through...man it's hard to even imagine.

This program has disappointed me too much the last several years. I have little hope left.
